Well the title pretty much says it all.

I just picked up an interesting book entitled, MIG Pilot Survival, by Alan R. Wise and in it he has a picture of the saw backed Spetsnaz Commando knife. These look like one hard core survival knife, and I was wondering if anyone knows if these can be found for sale in the U.S. or U.K. ( I live in the good ol' U.S.A. but would be willing to pay shipping from Britain if I could find one of these). Thanks for the help.
P.S. If anyone has the book the knife I'm talking about is on pgs 59 - 60.

Esav,
I got the link to open Siegler's catalog, but I can't find the knife. What department is it under? They do appear to carry a lot of neat stuff from the former Soviet Union, so maybe they do have what I'm looking for. Thanks for the info. Edited to add, okay, I found the knives and tools section and they do have the Survival Machete, which is also pretty cool, but the knife I was thinking of is a standard spear point, with a polymer handle, and a Robert Parrish style sawback, composed of trianglur shaped, double rowed saw teeth.

Sorry that wasn't the one! Maybe one of our Russians will see the thread. I haven't seen a knife like you describe. Most of the Russian sites I've seen are art knives or hunters.

Esav,
Don't be sorry, the Siegler's site is awesome, full of neat toys I can't afford, although I will order one of those Spetsnaz machetes once they are on stock, or when I have disposable funds again, which happens to occur in about a week. I will try to post a pic, but so far am dumber than the scanner which I have acess to.

Thanks for the other two links.
I managed to outsmart the scanner, and now have gotten the image to disk, but am unable to get it to post to B.F. Can anyone out there give me some advice. Thanks.

Thanks for the help so far. S I'm still checking out some of your links, it may be in there. Pyton 357 ru It's not among the ones on your link, but I do kind of like the one that looks like Katpah, in English, sorry I have a limited understanding of Cyrillic so I don't know what it's actually called. Do you know how much one costs? Edited to add: S it looks very similar to the link to andreiphoto, the first one you gave me. The only difference is that the one in the photo has a plain back, and the one I'm looking for has a sawback. Otherwise it looks the same. I do have a scanned photo on disk, but can't upload it to BF. Any advice from anyone out there?
Thanks.

The one you've liked is called "Katran" (sp? meant small shark from the black Sea...) Was desighned as a knife for military divers, but is used in land special forces. Major drawback -- being military isued it's sale to civillians is forbidden.
There is a civillian version of this knife -- instead of a point it has a flat shrewdriver. It is made by NOKS company. AFAIK they make sales into US.

Nozh2002, Just a heads up I just shot you an email with the picture attached. Thanks for the help.

Katran is known as a military knife (see post by Pyton) - not in sale and have no saw just usual serreitor (sorry my english :))..
Knife u like with sawback is Centurion - http://www.best-blade.ru/catalog/hunting/4centurion.htm - it's russian netstore, price is 2000 rubley about - ~ $65-70 (without delivery) - all russians knives prices is not higher usualy. Steel "65X13" is analogue of 440A steel - HRC 54-56 I think.
Good luck!

Here it is (I need some time to figure out hoe to take it avay from MSDoc):
afganSN.jpg

as I understand from text ander picture it is Afgan War knife,
issued for Specnaz. So it is not one of this modern knives we
talk about - Katran etc.
I'll forward this picture to knife.ru and First Russian forum also.

Thanks, Vassili.

So far answer is that this knife is OC-4 made in Tula for Russian version of SWAT - SOBR. Never used in Afgan, also Russian military has no knives but AK bayonet only, even specnaz. Time to time they buy small number of custom knives used as a revards. Russian military run knife contest once in 1995 and nobody win because military has no money to finish it.
Nobody yet tell how to buy it.

Thanks, Vassili.

According to Anderi Mak (well known russian expert on knives - has a great collection and library etc) this knife was available few years ago from german Frankonia catalog as "speznas" he do not know about now.
Blade thickness - 7mm.
Thanks, Vassili

There is a dealer here in UK specialising in Russian military equipment. He's ex-Spetznaz apparently. I expect to see him in a couple of weeks at a shooting competition/show at Bisley. If I can be any help at all I'd be happy - just drop me a line.
