Hi all! I was wondering where the best place to buy some M390 would be. I am working on a folding knife project and I would like to find some that is 2 inches wide, at least .200 thick and 5 inches or longer. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also, if anyone has information regarding machining M390, I would greatly appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance!

USA knife makers supply is the place, but in only certain thicknesses. I like this steel very much and so will grind the thickness to what I want on my belt grinder with a 36 grit ceramic. Frank

I have been looking for some m390 as well. You might want to check out Carpenters CTS-204P. Alpha knife supply has some and this steel is almost identical to m390

I was considering that but they don't have it in the thickness I need. I may switch to CTS-B75P. AKS has it in the sizes I need.

How do you go about this? Are you able to grind as thin as 1/16"?

Recently I bought a bar of 0.093" thick surface ground cpm-20cv from usaknifemaker. This steel is similar to m390 and cts-204p. With a little work, you should able to grind it down to 0.06.

Well, that would be a little expensive to do on a regular basis , but I have gone to .092 or so several times with pieces that are too small for larger folder blades. People how do I do it? I just do because I don't have a surface grinder to even help clean up the last grits I use. For regular thin blades I go to CPM154. I believe it too is a great steel for blades and also to work with. Even with this I must often thin and finish it from 3/32 to .093 or so. Frank
