What types of local stores carry these knives? Never see them at Wal-mart or any of the hardware stores. Do you all shop online for them?

Sometimes a knife store will have them, but mostly I think its an internet thing. You don't see many of them out in the retail places. Smoky Mountain Knifeworks always has a good selection of Opinels in the different sizes and styles.

ragweedforge.com is a great place to get opinels it's under the heading other traditional knives Ragnar is a super great guy to deal with, and if you're in the us you normally get the package within 2 days.. worth it to pick up a mora while there as well...

Smokey Mountain Knifeworks has a great selection of Opinels as well, including stainless ones if you can't stand carbon blades. Right know, they have a free shipping promo going on as well- I bought one of their paring knives this past week. I was going to buy a mushroom, but they were out of stock. I've also had good luck with eBay- you can sometimes get good deals on them their- especially if you like used ones.

Some smaller sporting goods stores carry them. Cogalns (a major camping gear marketing company) was selling Opinels in their packaging for a while, they still may.

Ragweed Forge is as good as they come. Ragnar is one of the really good guys.

if you are looking for local places, you could try a sporting goods store or a hardware store that carries coglan's products. coglan's repackages #7 and #8 opinels in blister packs with thier logo on the handle. same knife except for the logo.

apart from that, i would have to agree that you are pretty much limited to online.

Higher end and small cooking stores almost always have one or sometimes two sizes of Opinels. It can make an otherwise boring visit worth it;)

Probably every #7 I own I got at a cooking store while my wife was touring around it.

I've ordered so many knives from Ragnar, that I have lost track. One of the best. Generally received my knives from him within two days of the order.

Just got back from Sportsman's Warehouse and on my way out I notice a funny wooden handled knife in a Coghlin's package. Coghlin's makes all of the camping accessories, like lighters, compasses, whistles etc. Check out the site and you'll recognize it immediately.

In any event it has Coughlins stamped on the handle and also read "by Opinel" and had the standard Opinel Blade. This one was $9.99 for the #7 which seems reasonable. Thanks for all of the replies.

SMKW seems to have had a run on them. All out for a while.

Outside an honest to goodness cutlery shop or online, I've never seen an Opinel for sale.

There are some interesting Coughlan's Opinels out there. Never seen them in person.

Never seen one local, but Knifecenter (a BF Dealer Member) has a good selection. Don't forget to check out the saw (I just got one myself). Compact, light, and cuts wood like an angry beaver.

William Sonoma carries number 8's. They are usually located in shopping malls.

Here in Europe it's very common to see them for sale in shops that sell camping/hiking/climbing gear. That's where I bought my no. 8 carbon. Just last night I won a gently used no. 6 inox with walnut handle for $12 total on that big auction site. I'll pick it up on my work trip to the States in April. Can't wait!

If you have a [non-BF dealer deleted] near you, most of their stores carry Opinel.
