Where did I get this sheath?

I was recently going through my boxes of sheaths and this one has raised some curiosity. My initial thought was that it came with one of my 503's which are all from the Custom Shop. I also have a couple of 55's which are the same size as the 503.

Thing is, I've had this sheath about 8-10 years longer than any of those knives. It's possible that I no longer have the knife that this sheath came with but I can't match it to any knife that I currently own or remember owning in the past.

It's obviously made for either the model 503 or the model 55.

Where could I have gotten this sheath? Did Buck include these with the purchase of a particular 503 or a 55 at one time?

Buck did include a sheath like that with the 501 at one time (seen them boxed both ways, with and without). I have one of them. OH

Look at the description for the 500 & 501 (with sheath). The others weren't offered (in that catalog) with a sheath. OH

That’s what has me puzzled. The sheath seems to be a perfect fit for the 503/55 models.

A 501 might fit but I don’t remember ever owning a 501.

I’m starting to wonder if I bought the sheath separately.

When I used to go to gun shows and flea markets I would pick up nice sheaths, priced right, not having a knife for them.

I was digging around my closet, footlocker, and display shelves looking for a Buck Knife I shipped yesterday to a fellow Buck Forum member. It took me awhile to find it, but I was AMAZED at the Buck Knives and extra sheathes I own that I had totally forgotten about (some I don't remember when/where I bought them). I have cut way back on buying knives, but I need to downsize - I have too much to maintain or remember. OH

It’s funny. That’s how I came about wondering how I ended up with this sheath.

A friend recently bought a Buck 55 and he asked me if Buck ever made a leather belt sheath for the 55. I told I don’t think so but I have a sheath for a 503 that would also fit his 55.

After thinking more about it, I can’t match this sheath to any knife I own or remember owning. It fits the 503 but none of my 503’s came with a sheath as I had originally assumed.

Anyway, I’m shipping this sheath to him on Monday.

Great comparison! Thank you. I assumed that a 501 sheath would be larger but after seeing your pics, I think I do in fact have a 501 sheath. My 503's stick out at the top about the same amount as your 503 does in the photo.

Considering that I've never owned a 501, I'm going to conclude that I bought this sheath separately for one reason or another.

I bought a new 501 knife 15 to 17 years ago and it came with a sheath identical to the one pictured. I've never carried the knife in it but it's a nice sheath.
