where did the stockman knife come from

If I remember right, it evolved from the Cattleman knife pattern in the late 1800's. I think the Cattleman was more of an equal-end pattern, and the Stockman provided a more slender, serpentine and premium look.

Used for? Main blade, usually a clip, for general chores, a sheepsfoot for whatever you'd use a sheepsfoot for (leatherwork?), and a spay blade for, well, making bulls a little less aggressive. ;)

Some have an awl for drilling holes in leather.
