This is a fairly new knife and I have decided to keep it in my bumbag with my diabetic stuff plus pens, lucky coin and other personal treasure.
In brief it doesn't get the kid glove treatment nor is it in for any abuse. So where did that mark on the opener come from?

Its on both sides ,I can't rub it off with a cloth it seems to be scratched on.
I'm starting to wonder if it was there when I took delivery but in my glee I just didn't notice.

Both blade and opener are nicely centred and the knife is kept clean of gritty crud that might maybe cause something like it.

Perhaps the opener was wiped down with a page out of an old Stephen King novel during production..or something.
Its mysterious
Any ideas ?

Seems like perhaps a pocket of moisture got trapped on the inner liners surrounding the base of the can opener. It stops near the hook since the flat head screw starts to taper there..allowing more airflow?

From here, it looks like the 'mark' follows the line of the knife scale (and/or other blade) when closed, both sides...?

I'm thinking that moisture and/or some other substance rested on it long enough to form a patina-ish mark right along those lines, and down onto the tool some. Gots anything on your fingers lately?

Wait, I think I see a face in it...! :D ;)

Reckon a bit of polishing paste will get rid of it if it's surplus to requirements. Nice knife Meako

I think it looks like moisture has formed some patina on it. I agree with Jack I bet a little metal polish and some elbow grease will take care of it.

I might leave it and see if it forms into a word or phrase...such as "one more beer won't hurt".
Good theory Sarah-:) Perhaps condensation from those ice cold beer tops?
Tim -I was thinking that too-it snugs right up to the liners at the base-and that's where the mark is.

Thanks all. :)
