Where do I find a presentation knife?

I have a client that's a big hunter and I just found out he's moving on to a new postion. I wanted to give him a presentation knife as a parting gift, but I'm not sure where to look. Is my best bet to buy the knife separately and take it to a local place for engraving (like a Things Remembered store) or is there somewhere out there that'll actually sell me the knife & do the engraving.

BTW, probably looking to spend about $100 on the whole deal. Realistic?

Hi kirch,
I think that I can help you here with this one. At least I'll offer an option for you to look into.

Take a look at Marble Arms Knives. Marble's Knives are very good hunting knives that feature carbon blades, convex ground edges, great ergonomics, and great looks as well.
Marble's supports a custom knife program where they will take a current production run model knife and tailor it to your needs. They offer a wide selection of handle materials and can also custom laser engrave logos, names, and dates onto the blades. From what I have seen they do a really good job at this and I also understand the prices are very reasonable for this service.

You can contact them at marbles@up.net or call them at 908-428-3711.

Also, if you are interested in this, it probably wouldn't hurt to post over at their forum at www.knifeforums.com.
You may get more personal assistance taking this route as they are usually very attentive to taking care of their forum customers.;)

*Note-Knives purchased directly from the factory will most likely be a bit more expensive than purchasing from a dealer but then again the dealer cannot engrave either. The other option would be to purchase from a dealer and then have someone do custom engraving. Just don't forget that the blade is already hardened and you can't just go to the mall and have them perform this service.
One custom engraver, Billy Bates, is always mentioned here at BFC for his fine work. I would offer his web addy if I only had it. Maybe you could look into that option as well.

Good Luck with your search!!

Case makes a large Bowie and Kodiak that are nice knives under $100. Case also has factory presentation displays, one of which comes with an engravable brass plaque. You might look at our site to see if this is close to what you have in mind. Regards, Mike

We all have different styles, so each to his own. I think if I were in your shoes, I'd talk to him about hunting. Whether it might be better or worse where he's going than from where he's leaving. Try to find out what he has/uses in the way of a hunting knife.

You might discover he's already got an Ed Fowler Long Pronghorn, or a D'Holder hunter. If that were the case, I'd look for another gift idea. If, on the other hand, he says he broke his good hunting knife last year, and needs to replace it, I'd go with as good a knife as you can get for your money, and use Power Point to make up a nice certificate for him. You could get the Fallkniven S-1 or H-1 within your limit, plus several other good hunting knives.

I think otherwise, that Raptor's advice about Marbles is about as good advice as you're going to get here.
