hi, am new to ordering online for packs and stuff. what is the backpack store equivalent to bestknives, knifecenter, newgraham, onestopknifeshop etc etc. ie. prices are discounted from rrp?

many thanks - am looking for cheaper dana designs, arcteryx, mountainsmiths etc....

rei.com is great

SIerra Trading Post is great

Campmor too

I've ordered from all 3 and had great experiences

REI will back-up what they sell and I've experienced that more than once

You may want to consider buying from a Canadian shop. I visited REI Seattle recently and found the packs priced the same as in Canada. Buying the Canadian route could save you up to %40.
Sorry, no links, but still worth a search IMHO.:D

thanks all. will check out the canadian route as I'm quite interested in Arc'teryx stuff. the local dealer charges a 100% mark-up on Arc'teryx and mec.com will not ship Arc'teryx out of Canada.

You should also check out Eastern Mountain Supply at

http://www.ems.com

They are an outdoor outfitter like REI that sells many different brands (The North Face, MSR, Kelty, etc.) but also like REI, they also design and manufacture their own packs, clothing, sleeping bags, and other gear, which is very good quality, the latest design & materials, and very affordable. I bought their Summit 5500 pack earlier this year and I was really impressed with the workmanship and quality of materials and hardware. They have sales all the time too. Find what you want then wait a month tops and there will be another sale, usually 20% - 30% off. I know...I sound like I own stock in the company. Hey, that's not a bad idea--I'll have to see if they're listed. The downside is they don't carry as big a selection as REI does.

Hope this helps.

Another endorsement for campmor. I ordered a Kelty Redwing from them. Great price ($89), and their selection was very good. It came in about 2 days.
