Where do I Need to be to Discuss a Gold Membership?

**I’m not speaking about getting a membership—I know where to do that**

Hey y’all—I’m considering whether or not to get a membership so I can post sell/trade threads in the for sale forum.

Where do I need to be to discuss people’s experiences with the for sale forum?

Personally, I’ve only had one experience (as a buyer), and it was really good. Heads up to Vanjakim for providing a great experience and excellent service, as well as a nice product.

However, I am aware that there are risks taken, and sometimes unwholesome interactions that take place, and I want to have full disclosure and awareness before I spend $50 for a year of membership.

Thoughts? Opinions? Stories?

Thanks!
Leo.

I've bought over 100 knives on the Exchange here on BF, and sold over a dozen more. Only good experiences. Of course, you do have to be careful, use common sense and heed the suggestions you'll find in the "Good, Bad and Ugly" where people have run into problems. I've been very fortunate. The people I have dealt with here have been great!

As long as you continue to be a part of the community, you’ll be fine. That gives people confidence in who they’re buying from. It’s the members that come here to sell and not contribute to the forum that most members have issues with. I always research buyers first before buying. Sometimes I don’t get the knife, but I do gain insight for the next time.

I have had great experiences with the exchange, for the most part. That said , I consider being able to sell on the exchange a perk of membership rather than the reason to buy a membership. I buy to support a forum enjoy.

A Gold membership is $35 for one year. A good investment in a great community. Though the forum is having some issues at the moment I have faith that Admin (Spark) will get it resolved.

Thanks for all the great replies! I think I’ll go gold. 😁

I’ll be on the exchange in the near future. 😉

I may be mistaken but according to the options for gifting memberships, a Gold membership is $35 for one year.

Is there a reason that there's isn't an option to gift a Basic membership anymore? Does that level not exist?
Don't know that
But I copied
"Gold Membership $30.00 for 1 year"
from membership page minutes ago
so maybe it's still valid

Hopefully that's still the case, it's been 30 for a long time. Not sure why the gift Gold shows up as $35.

I thought I heard the Gold and Platinum went up...they are both $5 more as a gift. Wonder if they are also more for new members after a certain date, and before that date the $30/$60 is grandfathered in for renewals/upgrades?

Leo Greer Leo Greer Welcome to the upper level supporter.

The benefits are many WHEN it works as it should. However, the 'Good Bad and Ugly' feedback forum is FILLED with stories of Exchange transactions gone bad.

1. Search a member's history, especially if they are in good standing in transactions. Still no 100% guarantee, but it's an indicator.
2. Members who ONLY post in the Exchange, are generally opportunists. Be aware.
3. Shipping maladies are rampant: OVERPROTECT every shipment coming or going. Learn how to ship precautionary.
4. PayPal 'Friends and Family' will burn you every time. PAY the extra fee to them, or pass if a seller requires this method. Don't ask for F&F. The G&S fee is the cost of doing good business.

Good luck.

Yeah, despite our continued warnings that people should never use F&F with PP, people continue to ignore this then are shocked when they get burned.

It's because the regular is automatic and the gift requires manual action to do; and half the time I'm having to communicate back and forth with the gift giver because they put their username in or the wrong one. Think of it as a service charge

I don’t understand it. Even on a $600 knife, it’s only like $20 to have G&S…
