Where do most of you Knife Makers get your blade steel? What I am looking for , most of all, is piece of “Cowry-X” – “1/4 x 2 x 18” inches. The closest I can find is 12” long @ Jantz! Any help/info much appreciated!:)

Try Texas knife supply. I've seen it from time to time. Although I've never seen it on his site, Chuck at Alpha Knife Supply might have some stocked away.

List of steel suppliers:

  • Admiral Steel (Stainless and Carbon)
  • Alabama Damascus Steel & Cutlery (Damascus)
  • Chad Nichols Damascus (Damascus)
  • Crucible Industries (Stainless and Carbon)
  • Damasteel (Damascus)
  • Devon Thomas Damascus (Damascus)
  • Rex Walter Tool Steel (Tool Steel)
  • Halpern Titanium (Titanium)
  • Meier Steel (Damascus)
  • Mike Petersen (Damascus)
  • NJ Steel Baron(Stainless and Carbon)

That's all the one's I know about. That should be plenty of places for you to check out. :)

NJ Steel Baron for me.

I call* Aldo at NJ Steel Baron and Chuck at Alpha Knife Supply. If they don't have it, they can almost always get it.

* they both keep their websites fairly up-to-date, but they always seem to have cool stuff that's not listed, too.
