Where do odd BUCK knives come from?

A while back I got into my head to make a collection of classic Buck sheath knives. I knew the 116 caper was unavailable new so I decided I wasn't going to start buying the common ones until I found a good deal on a caper. All of a sudden on BUCKS web specials popped up a 116 caper with Cherry wood handle. So I grabbed it, they also had a 103 Skinner in cherry, so I grabbed it too.

All of a sudden my thoughts of having a set turned into having a cherry set with aluminum trim. Not the brass from Bass pro, that would be too easy.

Like an addict I check back in at the BUCK web specials and limited editions daily I scored a BCCI 120 for a good deal when they were closing them out. Then I found Copper and Clad, I got a nice cherry 112 from them. So I check daily with them too.

Now to the point,.Last night I went on the big auction site searched Buck knife cherry wood. First listing is for the 117 special with cherry wood. The guy has three of them. But where did they come from?. Copper and Clad never had them, they weren't on bucks sight that I check daily. Just an odd variation, are there only 3 in existence? I ask because I still need a cherry 102,&105, to complete my set.

On a separate question. Will Buck bring back the 121 Fisherman? I thought the Caper was dead, then like nothing they drop a few new ones on their web site.

Thanks Ed

After typing that long post. I think I answered my own question. The seller is from Spokane Washington, which is google tells me is 27 minutes from Post Falls.

The 3 Cherry 117s must be from the factory store, and never made it to the web. Possible cleanup knives from leftover Bass Pro handles? Anybody who lives near there keep me in mind if any Cherry wood /aluminum 102 or 105's show up.

Thanks Ed

Build out knives from Buck show up twice a year at the sales. There have been years that didn't have hardly any and others had more than that.

Dogpound, We have always had a forum policy that "direct" talk of sales are not a part of Buck forum. Even C & C and SK and Mak just say "Send me email" or "Send me private message" without to much talk of what you are selling. You are a Gold Member so you can use those methods. Photos of models you are collecting or that you have for sale are allowed, but you can only show photo without saying its for sale. Regular members who can not private message can asked someone to contact them but not mention the knives they have for sale or want. Its just the way things need to work. You want to show a photo of a knife you have you can go to the Buck specific sale site at the top of the page and put it up for sale. Buck Knives, in a sense, owns this forum so BF has to protect it to a high degree. Just use the methods above and no issues. You can talk about spots where you got a good deal knife but no prices need to be mentioned. Sellers memberships gives you right to post you email site. C & C and SK are authorized BUCK knife dealers , so they speak more liberally......300

eveled, You can ask for help in searching for collection knives, just don't ask if anyone has any they want to sell......300

Nope, let it go on, info for all. Sometimes I will PM info like that but I didn't think you would be upset and its good to remind everyone. The bad thing when I play moderator sometimes I kill a thread. I don't want to do that to this. Odd Buck knives have been around forever, I think space aliens make them...ha ...... 300

All the way back in 2012 I bought my daughter a Buck 112 Legacy limited edition with a wolf inlay in Elk and Turquoise. I have always admired the set from 2012 it came in a 916, 112, 503. Over the years I watched these pop up on the auction sites and finally picked up the 503. Just recently I found a seller of the 916 & 112 and pulled the trigger on them. Then I noticed the photo's show yellow and black printed boxes not the Black custom boxes, I also could not see any serialization on the blades?

When the knives arrived what I saw was confirmed. Then I checked the labels on the boxes and the label numbers matched the Legacy LE numbers from 2012. However, the date on the labels were from 2016???? I contacted the seller (they are from Spokane) and asked if these knives were bought at a Buck Factory Store sale. The said yes, so what I would like to know from Buck is are these left over knives from the original run that did not sell, or are these over run knives, or are these build out knives from leftover parts? The label is not a build out designation.

I should note though the 112 is not serialized it is stamped WBC on the back side of the lock bar (very cool)

They are beautiful
