Cell Phone

Etc...

Some of you hombres carry a lotta stuff! I have trouble with keys, wallet, phone and knife. Where/how do you guys carry all that stuff? I'd have to wear suspenders and a belt and STILL wear cargo pants with all that stuff.

1) A good belt is essential! :) Seriously, I've been much happier since I switched to a riggers-type belt. (Mine is a 1-1/2" Combat Shooters Model from The Wilderness Tactical Products.)

2) Hang the heaviest stuff directly off your belt. I normally have four horizontal belt pouches (SAK, multi-tool, spare magazine, and cell phone), a horizontal fixed-blade sheath, and an IWB holster on mine.

3) Then the smaller stuff goes into various pockets in my... yes, you were right... cargo pants. ;)

The most important trick is to carefully select your EDC items for minimum weight and size. Prioritize items by function and keep the lower-priority items small, even if you have to give up some capability.

I'm planning on getting a Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack, which I think would hold everything, save perhaps a gun. Of course, being in Canada, that's not an issue for me. As it is, I carry a motorcycle courier bag a lot of the time, but it's 18" wide and about 12" tall, so it's quite bulky. I also have a little canvas gas mask bag, but it looks a little too much like military gear (oddly enough) for trips to malls or whatnot. I'm going to get either the black or khaki one, and I'm leaning towards khaki, as the black might look "too tactical". Then again, it's small enough that it might not be an issue, and black matches with everything.

Nevermind, it's late and I'm rambling.

Get a man-purse, and proudly carry your stuff. Your friends will mock you until the first time they borrow your knife (from your bag) to cut something, then cut themselves and get a band-aid (from your bag). If you have cool friends, they might realize the inherent practicality of it without having to injure themselves. :D

Seems like it would easier to get a fanny pack and keep it all in there. There are many with multiple pouches/pockets to hold all kinds o things.

I try not to look like a Marine about to go into combat, less suspicious that way.

I carry two knives IWB, one on each side behind the hip. One knive is in my left front pocket and the last is in my left rear pocket. My wallet is in my right front pocket; my comb in the right rear pocket. I carry my cell phone, inova, wave, and keys on my belt. I also have a fatboy. I put my calculator, checkbook, daytimer, pens, and other odds & ends in there.

Metallicat, how do you drive (or sit, for that matter) with all those knives behind you? What knives do you find carry well IWB?

Check out the maxpedition stuff. You can go large (like the fatboy pack) or small (like the M2 waistpack that I use) and they have many in-between.
If you are against hanging stuff on your belt, then I cannot help you :p

I usually just wear jeans with a decent belt.... I can carry 2 folders, one fixed blade SOB, one handgun IWB, wallet, keys, surefire, Arc AAA, leatherman, a balisong, and a few other items without much trouble. Anything past that, I just toss it in my Eagle A-III pack and don't worry about it. My pack might look tactical, but I really ain't worried about it :p

Pants:
-Left front pocket for L2 + keys with Micra & ArcAAA-P, Totoro change holder
-Right front pocket for easy access knife, phone and black bullet pen/stylus
-IWB "Ace-in-the-hole" knife
-Left cargo pocket gets left glove/left arm warmer, PDA, work manifest
-Right cargo pocket gets right glove/right arm warmer, slim Tumi money-clip like wallet, napkins
-Right back pocket is for my Kryptonite mini-U Lock
-Left back pocket for Spyderench
-TADGear horizontal sheath for LM Wave

I always wear a black leather belt with interchangeable buckle. I'm fascinated by old and new belt buckles! If only I could find a shiny silver H&K logo buckle... :D

I usually wear a jacket or vest which then gets the PDA, compass, lip balm, ArcAA, and lense cloth. My BOB, tools, pump, Bible, Spork/chopsticks and other gear get distributed throughout the various compartments and pockets of whatever bag I'm usin'. I currently can't bring myself to leave the house without my Camelbak Motherlode, 'cause bein' able to carry three liters of cool water COMFORTABLY, and have instant access to it without opening anything is like a dream come true.

Hi Kinzli. Its actually not that bad. My left side IWB carry is a spydie police model and the right side is a MOD CQD MkI. They are on the side so they don't interefere when I sit down. I carry a superknife in the left rear pocket clipped to the outermost side of the pocket - so again it doesn't interefere when I'm sitting. I have a Sebenza in my left front pocket. My cell phone is on my belt in front about where a fanny pack would ride. It has a swivel clip. My keys are clipped to my belt on the right side. The inova and wave are in vertical pouches attached to my belt over the spydie. All in all not too cumbersome. The hardest one to deal with is the MOD. The other knives are fairly slim. I used to carry the MOD in a horizontal pouch, but the IWB carry is more discrete.

This is an never ending struggle...pros and cons to each method. I've tried so many was to carry my stuff. It depends on what I'm doing, or planning on doing that will determine what I bring and how I carry it.

I wore belt pouches of various types and sizes for most of a decade. (Eagle Creek rules!) There is absolutely nothing wrong with them, but I eventually found that I prefer the distributed approach to the all-in-one-pouch technique. It's just a matter of individual taste and usage.

I will say that although you'd think people would react strangely to a belt full of black cordura pouches, in practice, no one appears to notice them at all. As long as they are reasonably slim and worn horizontally they just blend in. Maybe wearing black pouches against a black belt helps too. I dunno, but people stopped commenting when I switched from a larger waist pouch to the small individual ones.

These days my next step up in "personal luggage" is a photographer's-style vest with lots of pockets. I don't wear it to work, but more often than not otherwise. It not only adds an enormous amount of carrying capacity, it also does a neat job of concealing my holster. (I prefer not to have to tuck my shirt over it.) Beyond that I grab my backpack for any real load.

Yup. A never-ending battle between the desire to carry everything and my jeans' desire to fall down once I'm loaded up.

It varies from week to week, usually.

I'll see that, and raise ya...

Jeans:
-- Left front pocket: Princeton Tec Blast, Spyderco Cricket, small plastic container of migraine medication, money wallet.
-- Right front pocket: Cricket electronic lighter, lip balm, ID wallet, and a mini-carabiner (hanging from belt) holding a CMG Infinity Ultra, Latshaw Tools PocketWrench II, Swiss-Tech ScrewzAll, Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers, and an aluminum tubular whistle from REI.
-- Left rear pocket: comb, Swiss-Tech MicroPlus.
-- Right rear pocket: Retro51 Tornado Elite pen, bandanna.
-- Watch/change pocket: Photon Freedom Micro Covert (white) attached to my Victorinox Midnite MiniChamp II.
-- Neck: Lanyard holding an Arc AAA LED flashlight, 'Sparky' keyring firestarter, REI button compass, Spyderco Jester in lime green, and a Blast whistle from Ultimate Survival.
-- Belt: Verizon LG VX4400B, Leatherman Wave.

My vote is for a photographer's vest, for both urban and field use.
I have one with 19 pockets, mesh vents and heavy duty zippers in navy blue, and it looks good (read:non-threatening) and will carry all your small items securely with easy access and good load distribution.

Like all equipment, buy the best quality within your budget, and it won't let you down.

The cure for the manpurse is the Scott E-Vest, so many pockets that are tailored to not really bulk you up like you have a ton of stuff on you.

I've also got a FatBoy, holds pretty much everything I need but it's not very stealthy so you're advertising that you're a walking survivalist store. Sorta like those people getting mugged because they're wearing Apple's trademark Ipod earbuds.

Agreed. I have a version 3.0 FineTex, but I can't wear it in warmer weather, even with the sleeves zipped off.
