I'm looking for a MicroKey keyring microshield.

Do any regular stores sell these? I found them on websites with no problems, but I really don't want to pay $6+ shipping for a $10 item.

You might give your local fire station a call and find out if they get their gear locally or know of an outlet you can visit.

I agree. Alternatively, ring the paramedics (NOT the emergency help line!), St John's Ambulance or other first aid course teachers, lifeguards or any shop that sells surgical supplies and you should be on your way.

Don't know about that particular brand, but I have seen pocket masks at uniform stores. Check you phone book.

There must be a store that sells to police/fire in your area, this is where to look.Personally I don't carry these small key ring things. After doing crp for 15 years on folks from 6 days old to well into thier 90's,I want more of a barrier than a little piece of unfolded plastic.

If i can't use a bvm,(like off the job) I want a pocket mask with one way valve. Now yes I can't carry one on my keys,I'd have to get it from my car.

But in doing crp get ready for, puke, blood, that neat black coffee ground type stuff, urine, poop and so on.

Now a family member sure,I'll go right to work.A stranger? Well I come first,he''l have to wait till I get the right bsi.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Lone Hunter: The model I'm looking for does have a one-way valve on it. I agree, a good barrier is a must. Take a look at the one I'm looking at: based on your experience, do you think it's inadequate? Because I'll just get a mask if it is.

The wife (EMT-1A) carries that shield on her keyring. It was recommended to her as an "emergency only-no other shield available" piece of equipment by her paramedic sister and Fire Captain (EMT) brother-in-law.

I used to carry that one in my gym bag when I went to the ymca.At the time of day I go its full of,... well old folks and more than one has gone into arrest.

Thank God they now have an AED w/o2 kit,as I really want more than that between me and strangers.

If you want something easy to carry so you aways have it,thats it.Its miles ahead of nothing at all.

Kind of a trade off, like in guns.Small ones easy to carry, not the best for use, better than nothing.

FWIW we have 525 guys on the job and I have not seen one of these on a guys keyring, belt etc.I do know guys with pocket masks in their cars and well, coat pockets. :) .

y'all only need go as far as your local Red Cross office - they all either sell them or can get them from the bigger offices nationally... try their website: if you buy from the Red Cross, part of the proceeds help the handicapped through employing them to package and ship first aid equipment and supplies... Highly recommend this route if you belive in the Red Cross...

PS: I have one in my daybag that goes everywhere with me - this was just an addition as an answer to the last poster who doesn't see any of his co-workers wearing one...

Joe i only mention my co-workers,as this is what we do for a living, and if a few hundred guys choose something else or nothing at all, well maybe there on to something.

Not to go to far ot.We all base things on our own life experience. My cpr experience is not that of a guy on the 10 th hole or a retired teacher going down while shoveling snow.

Its a person on a well soiled mattress on a floor so soiled my boots stick to it,he'll be filthy and soiled himself most likely a boozer and drug user, roaches on the walls and sometimes dog crap on the floors. His relatives won't know his date of birth or much less his medical history.

So, when off the job I want more bsi then these things give me,and most guys I work with feel the same.I look at every pt. as if they got aids, hep c, tb and every other letter I don't want to bring home.

Lonehunter... no offense mate... In what I gather your line of work presents, I'd want a Bio-suit and cattleprods!

In my situation, however, I'm probably as likely to need a simple disposable barrier as I am the rest of the first aid stuff I carry - heck, I've only ever used the moleskin, duct tape, bandaids and neosporin... but if you ever need backup... well, being prepared was about all I really took from the Boy Scouts... and how to use everclear to start fires! LOL!

go to a local first aid store in town. that is where I got mine. phone book is the place to look.
