Where do you buy your factory knives?

Where are your favorite online store to purchase factory knives? I'm thinking of picking up a Cold Steel Magnum Tanto & wanted to find a good deal but also a reliable place to buy from.

I found an online place that listed the knife for half of what Cold Steel listed on their website. So I'm thinking, "this deal sounds almost too good to be true." So I figured I should check here first.

TIA!

online prices are cheaper than MSRP, and Cold Steel's prices fluctuate with changes in the yen, ss tantos being made in Japan. I used to get the Special Projects catalog, and prices would jump around from issue to issue

Definitely search through the section here under Exchange called The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

I know nothing about the place you mentioned, but if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Personally, www.newgraham.com is my favorite, but there are many other good sites on the web. Definitely consider the shops that sponsor this site, and particularly www.1sks.com.

SInce it's pretty close to my house, I like grand Prairie Knives. Thye have a great slection and very competitive prices.

I've had nothing but good luck with www.knifecenter.com, fwiw.

Magnum Tanto II MSRP - $324.99 (on Cold Steel site)
Knifecenter - $193.95
Several similar prices were found on Froogle, btw, so "half price" is not by any means uncommon with Cold Steel.

Now, Alvin, I have to ask... WHY do you want one of these knives? I've got two of the CS tantos (Recon and Original) and they aren't very practical knives, compared to say, a drop point. What you gonna use this thing for?

Edited to add... If you buy from 1SKS.com, you are supporting the Blade Forums, as they share a common owner.

Thanks everyone for the referals, I agree that if I'm going to spend money, I might as well support a sponsor of this site.

FoxholeAthiest, A drop point is my favorite non-cooking knife to use for everyday stuff. I'm mainly interested in Cold Steel tantos because they have been featured in many Hollywood movies (Black Rain, Red Dawn, Universal Soldier, The Fan). But unlike many "movie knives" out there, it's a well made knife.

I was thinking that my next "movie knife" was going to be either one of Cold Steel's tantos or the Beck Wilderness Survival Knife featured in "The Hunted."

I stand by this one... www.knivesplus.com

This company is family owned. Mom, Dad, and both sons work their butts off to make the company work. They have been in business for almost twenty years and have just recently started the online store. They keep their knives in stock unlike some online retailers. These guys also KNOW the knives they sell.

Every time I visit their retail store I am greeted by name and made to feel very welcome. Even when I am just there browsing and I don't purchase anything, I am still treated like #1. :)

Okie, I can understand the collecting impulse. I will probably get rid of my tanto at some point, but I'm hanging on to it right now mainly because I've wanted one since I was 12 or so. :)

I have bought several blades from Roger @ knifeworks.com, great service and good prices.

I like the picture of that Beck Survival Knife.........Sweet !

MOVIE KNIVES?!?! I never dreamed that would be a basis for buying a knife. Not for use anyway. A wall hanger perhaps. BUT...... I need to go take MY meds now. My version of reality has been seriously skewed it seems. Perhaps a few shots of Jack would help........

Ebay.... I have bought several pieces from razorsharpknife, which I think is Sawyer's Cutlery. Other places are newgraham.com and 1sks.com.

I saw some Master Tantos with Sen Mai III steel at Cold Steel's parking lot sale last weekend for like $177.00. Call them and tell them you saw one at the sale and regretted not buying it and would like to now. You might be surprised.

Rob, Sure movie knives, why not? Did you know that many well respected custom knife makers are asked to design a knife for movies? Also, for an up-and-coming knife smith, having their knife featured in a movie really boosts his/her exposure. I lost count how many Spydercos I've seen in movies, I don't personally carry one, but many folks use them for everyday use.

BTW, neither the Cold Steel Tanto nor the Beck knife are wall hangers. :)
