Where Do You Find a Maker

Look right here on Blade Forums - check the Gallery & admire all the fine knives! Start surfing knifemakers on the internet - many have their own websites or are connected to various organization's websites. Knife shows let you meet the makers & their knives in the flesh. Good hunting!

I am Not Looking for a "Maker" I Am One !! I am trying to Find Different way's to Gain Exposier - Marketing Plan's

I suggest, in descending order of precedence:
  • knife shows
  • have knife stores sell your stuff (let them do the work of getting you exposure)
  • magazine and internet ads (does this site still do banners?)
  • and I suppose if you get desparate, there's always late night QVC ("you gets 35 gen-u-ine bowie knives for the low price of $175... thats less than $6 per knife...")

Matt i would put up some of my knifes for sale in the Makers For Sale section with good pictures of course and would also post some pictures in the The Gallery and take it from there!

Good Luck!
James

I suppose if I had looked under your name I would have known that.

I look on the forums, in magazines and books like the Knives annuals, at knife shows and I look foe web sites. I think all new makers should have a web presence. A good web site goes a long way in helping show off your work.

Good answers here, for me the most important thing is reputation. When a maker is held in high esteem by other makers that maker has my attention.

I look at how a maker handles themselves on-line and in person in comparison to what I see in the industry. If I see hype or hear bad talk of other makers it just does not fit in the world of handmade knives and I stay away. I also look at what a maker does for knifemaking and other makers in general. Some customers feel that work is the qualifier. Nothing wrong with that. I just enjoy my knives more when I have respect for the person who made them.

When I purchase work from a young maker, I go on personality.
