Where do you get your gas?

So, I just called the local home center to ask about a propane refil and they told me that they can only fill 20 and 30 lb tanks by law. I've got a 100lb tank and another large tank that I need to get refilled. Am I going to be stuck having to have gas delivered? I was hoping that I could run tanks out and refill when needed rather than try to manage scheduling, set up a monthly account, etc.

Any guidance from the peanut gallery?

Thanks,

Have an Airgas welding shop locally? Ours has propane. Also, the local propane delivery people allow carry-ins. They insist, though, that the tank be transported upright in an open-back truck.

Most the gas stations out here also sell propane. I never had a problem having them fill my 100 pound bottle. Most the stations that I fill are over priced will normally give a break on the price if you get over 10 gallons.

The outfits that service propane customers here won't service a 100 pound bottle. Think the minimum they will fill is 100 gallons.

The welding supply co. charges me $72 to fill my 100#ers, even if they are not empty. I did fill them at a gas station that just charged what they filled, but they are no longer in business.

My local propane dealer. I had a 350 gal tank put behind my shop, when the truck comes out to fill, it cost close to half as much as it does to have tanks filled at their place of business. They will also come out and fill 100# tanks around here for the same price.

Excellent! Thanks for all the ideas folks! I may have a lead on a place around here. At least I got the 2 20lb tanks filled to hold me over :)

I burn propane in my shop for heat. 150 gal out back.
The bulk truck that fills it also fills my 100# tanks and 20#
tanks for me when he is hear. I just sit them by the 150 gal.
and they charge me the bulk rate and don't rob me.
They don't charge to have the 150 gallon one as long as you
buy the gas from them. If you use a fair amount you might want
to check into that.
Always tryin to save a buck.

French onion chip dip does a number on me.

But seriously, Check out RV service and storage places. Most of them sell propane and they sell it by weight.
