Man, these seem so hard to get. As soon as one comes up on the forum (For sale:folders), it's gone.

So, where do you buy yours?

Keep an eye on the Knifemakers for Sale forum here at BF and also contact the makers via email or personal messages. Watch the Custom Knives for sale forum, grease your fingertips, and practice your speed typing. :)

Most of mine come from ordering from the makers, shows and this forum as well has heads up from friends.

I'm not sure how flexible you are for travel but Blade Show is coming up in Atlanta at the end of May. You can't find a better place on earth to buy to your hearts content.

Or your wallet's limit!

:p

I have bought mine directly from the maker. I have 4 Mike Alsdorf's & 1 Bill Vining. I wish to have more of both makers knives.

Most custom makers will create one to suit you. You'd have to wait, but you'd at least have a target date for delivery.

Find a maker you like and place an order. That's how I did it, and that's the beauty of custom slipjoints -- getting someone like Kerry or Bret Dowell to make the exact knife that you want.

Starting to sound like an old hand at this...:p

It sure is. But it can be a bit dizzying with all the options and wonderful makers out there.

Thanks for all the info guys. All the makers look like they make great stuff. I'll have to start checking out some individual websites.

Komondor,
you have good advice on this thread. Let me add one bit.
I notice that you live in Vermont. How far from MA? There is a pretty good little knife show in Marlboro every so often, and many purveyors attend (in addition to some makers).

Although there is usually some markup in the dealers' prices, many times there are bargains to be had. I have done very well there. In my opinion, that show is worth attending. You never know how any individual show will be--who will be attending--but it is worth a trip.
