Where does the clip go for this carry?

I'm new to knives & don't have one to try out. I'm about to order a folding knife. Where do I tell him to attach the clip? I've tried it too many times & now i'm not sure which is best. Point down or up? left or right side?

Scenario:

  • I'm left handed
  • carry will be inside top of jeans center-back (kidney area)
  • reach 4 knife left handed + spyderco hole ready for thumb for quick deploy
 
why not put a pocket knife in your pocket? Much more comfortable and accessible in my opinion.
 
Buy an off-the-shelf knife with 4 positions for the clip. Carry it & make your own decision. People aargue about this all the time. You can't take advice, you have to work it out yourself.

Then order the custom job.
 
Let's back up. with the knife in your hand blade open - which is correct

  1. the clip is resting against the palm of your closed hand (left side attached)
  2. the clip is held by fingertips (right side attached)

Its a gift. I want it "ready to wear" on unwrapping.
 
I am left handed and I carry my spyderco in the corner of my back left pocket, tip up.

This is where the clip would go if held in your right hand. In your left hand the clip would rest against your palm
