Where does your mammoth ivory come from? Here!

There is not much coming this way from Siberia at this time. Almost all of it goes to China. Alaska and the Yukon produce 10,000 or more lbs a year. In a good yearI will buy a few tons. I sell to dealers who make knife scales or restore the tusks.
About a month ago I was contacted by a production company from GB that is doing a docudrama for Nat Geo involving the hunt for tusks in Siberia. They are forming 3 teams from arround the world that will hunt tusks with the natives. It does not look like I got picked. O how I want to go. I went there 20 years ago on a ivory deal but did not get out in the field.

Is mammoth bark or ivory getting more scarce, or are they finding more of it? Seems like they are learning how to find the tusks better, providing a better supply.

There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of mammoths buried in the north. In Alaska most of the ivory is exposed by placer mining or thawing along rivers. A few years ago a lot of material was coming into the US from Siberia. Now almost all of it is going China. Its price of carvable ivory has more than tripled. The value of the bark has gone up but not as much.
