Where Has All The Black Paper Gone?

Been away from here for quite a while until recently, since I've been gone I've come to realize it would appear Black Paper Micarta is gone for good from the Busse Knife Group offerings. Have I missed some sort of announcement or was it just quietly discontinued for lack of sales? I can't imagine it was that popular (as are most things I like it seems) and it did seem to get a reputation for being LESS tough and perhaps a bit slick. That said, I love the stuff given a good texturing choice on the handle. It's light weight and smooth feeling, very agreeable to use/handle. Would love to see it make a comeback one day, who knows right?

Well, I have never heard an official announcement but it’s surely not a normal option any more. I like it as well for appearance!

Definitely one of the least, if not THE least durable handle materials, yet, probably my favoUrite, as well.

A smooth Black Linen Micarta would be very nice (Green or Maroon, too), especially on the small to mid-sized knives.

The Black Paper has been gone from the list of handle materials for at least 5 years maybe longer. Black Paper polishes out much nicer than Black G-10 but as was mentioned is not as durable as G10. Black Paper on Satin The Tuxedo Combo:cool::thumbsup:

Yes and Yes!

One of my first higher-end production knives (original Al Mar) had what I think was white paper Micarta. It aged like ivory. Oh, my. But I have had black paper as well and loved it for it's appearance.

I also think that paper was slightly, but noticeably, "warmer" to the touch than other Micartas when in use. Or at least it warmed up more quickly than other Micartas (and G1- well, I like it for other reasons, but it never seems to warm up at all). But that may be my active imagination at work!

But yeah, it is not "Busse/kin tough," that's for sure. Now as you mention, linen, that is the best of both worlds, IMHO. Both black and green linen Micartas are purty as well as tough! I have long wondered why linen Micarta is not an option.

Last time I got any Black Paper was December of 2013, when I ordered it on a Butaniku. I'd hoped to get one in Black Paper and Satin to match an AK47 & Ruck set (from some long ago ganzaaa) and a Satin with Black Paper Gladius. But sadly, I couldn't order it in sating or even competition finish.

Anyway, at that time, it was still an option available on knives ordered from the website. It was available on the Anniversary models (AMS, ASHBM, ASH-1) and AA LB, but it seems to have been phased out by the end of 2015. I don't think it was an option on the TGLB or any of the OP2W knives.
