Where have all the avatars gone

I have noticed lately that all the posts and threads seem to have lots of people with no avatars. Kinda weird and depressing seeing a screen full of just empty image boxes next to random usernames. Back in the day you took great pride in your avatar.

They're there, it's a symptom of the bigger server lag issues...ongoing (looooong time) thread in Tech Support:(
 
Is my avatar not showing?
Another aspect may be the paid membership requirement.
 
avatar check 1-2-3. it does seem to be a new world here in the past few years, since forged in fire, and almost all the famous makers left. yes hhmoore, i see your avatar.

JT I never thought about it. Maybe I'll try to come up with an avatar. Does Mecha Mecha have a formula for this?

Thought I'd heard my name being called, but when peering into the distance, all I could see was an empty wasteland devoid of avatars...
 
I think it is related to being a member. Registered users are basically visitors with posting privileges. They don't pay, so they don't get free hosting of their avatar. Even a basic member who pays ,what? $10, gets an avatar.
 
I never even thought about it ... does it offend someone that I don’t have an avatar posted? I’m not very photogenic... so that is out. :-)

I got lots of pics of cute cow chicks. Ya could use one of them. Everyone would know it’s not you, but hey...... shoulder shrug.
 
If I search hard enough bet I could find a pic of some old grizzled cowpoke for ya?
