Yes...There does seem to be less and less daily need for axes in general. When I was a kid in the 70's-80's I still used one quite a bit...myself and a bunch of friends built a log cabin outside of town as a hangout and we would go get firewood for the fireplace at home pretty regularly which then had to be split and my dad built a cabin on a lake so all that clearing and construction work and then the wood needed for the old school wood stove/oven he found for the place. Here is another article that merely mirrors what many Urban cities are doing these days making axes less of a need. http://montrealgazette.com/news/loc...w-bylaw-on-wood-burning-stoves-and-fireplaces
Yep, that was what I appreciated as well. It may serve as quite a good intro to peak someone's interest in axes - for the general public they are nothing but big lumps of steel. I for one knew that my grandfather was a "wizard" with an axe having worked all his life with wood but it was a while until I understood that those old tools he had were of much higher quality than what i could buy myself. Wish I could go back in time and pay more attention to what he was doing every day, with a mature man's eyes and mind.
