I don't know about you guys, but I really enjoyed the series of knife making videos by Caleb White on YouTube. They were the most informative and well done videos I have found and just a gold mine of information. I can honestly say that his videos have gotten me back into knife making after a 30 year break. Anyway, I noticed last week that his account on YouTube has closed. I'm distraught. Does anyone have any idea what is going on with Mr. White?

Good question, I really enjoyed his videos.

I don't think it's related, but his website (which is still up) has a message saying he had to shut down his Email server. Maybe he got hacked?

He is still posting to instagram. I'll msg him and see whats up.

EDIT: This was posted on Instagram a couple of days ago...

"Some folks may have noticed that my YouTube channel is gone. For reasons that aren't worth posting I'll say, yes it is gone, and no, it's not permanent!!
We are in the process of reorganizing and reprioritizing for the good of the family and the business. I know many of you enjoyed that free resource of info and it will return in some form or another! 😜"

So I guess it is just temporary but no word on when it will be back. Sounds like maybe he is planning to charge for the content now?

Yeah, would make sense if he's going to charge for them. Like I said, his videos are outstanding. One of my first thoughts after watching his videos was he was probably creating more competition than selling knives.

It actually takes a lot of time making good WIP threads let alone videos..In the past Ive sat in front of the keyboard for more than two hours putting together just a good WIP thread..I can only imagine that vids would be that much more work..

Sad to me to see knife makers having to go this route. I am sure not many will agree, but I am much more likely to purchase a knife from someone with videos like his than someone who charges, mostly because I am not a person who would pay for that type of thing. It does take time and effort but it turns out to be some of the best marketing material you have. If Caleb did not have those videos out there I probably never would have heard of him. But at the end of the day if he sees an opportunity in selling them then he has to do whats right for his family like he said.

I agree with you. I'm not the guy who is out buying custom knives but I have resolved to buy one of Caleb's knives for two reasons. First, as I mentioned in my original post, it was because of Caleb's videos that I am making knives today. And second, I've learned so much from him. His videos replaced what would have been years of hard earned experience and I'm grateful.

Here's a paring knife I made for my wife. Not perfect but a damn good knife. It's my seventh knife and I can say without Caleb's videos I wouldn't have been able to make anything even close...simply not possible.

After this ringing endorsement of Calebs videos I may be one of the first ones to purchase them when they are available!!

His videos area great indeed. I have qute a few downloaded - toghether with videos from other makers (to watch offline when travelling to and from work) and these continue to be a very valuable source of information.

I have exchanged a few emails with Caleb and he is a super nice guy. I do cinsider to order a knife from him (the small utility blade he makes are really awesome)

According to his own words, he is doing fine, but he is investing time an effort that will be more fruitful to his family. He is also going through some learning process (he has a new workshop since recently also got a second 2x72") in the knifemaking and wants to focus on that. My understanding is that he plans to have some sort of video stream (youtube or otherwise) later, but does not have the time to keep it running at the moment.

Caleb is great guy who helped me out a lot as new knife maker. As a matter of fact when I talked to him at Blade Show 2015, I had just started making knive (about 6 months) and was looking to purchase some knives when he gave me a great piece of advice in that why buy knives when I can make them, and that I should be buying materials and talking to different knife makers and learn as much as I can. To which he definitely gained my respect.
