Where have the cheap griptilians gone?

I swear I can remember Benchmade Griptilians selling for around $50 four years ago, when I joined this forum. Went shopping for one online the other day and was hit with sticker shock. Almost all models are going for $80 or more now. I finally found the one I wanted for $70, but damn.... Have they really gone up that much, or is my memory bad? AFAIK Benchmade hasn't discontinued them or anything.

Are these the actual prices charged? Benchmade has a minimum advertised price policy, but dealers can go lower once you add them to the cart.

Yes, the actual prices being charged were around $80 on average. Some sellers wouldn't show the price until you added the product to your cart, but they were still close to $80.

I paid $69 for my blue mini Griptilian on ebay, but the cheapest price I could find at online stores was $81. The one I bought was listed at $81 OBO, and I got it for a little less. I remember reading that they went for about 60 regularly many years ago. I just got into knives though so I don't know personally. The knife has been worth the money though. It's so smooth to open, and I love the axis lock. I was considering a Delica because of the price, but I'm glad I got the griptilian.

I am looking for a decent price because I have custom CF scales & backspacer coming soon. The mini is one of my favorite small knives and i want my next one to be special. Even though the stock scales are said to be "plasticky" they are tough as nails and a pretty good "grip". I was told that a well known and respected online dealer marks them down about $20 from MAP.

people think if its on ebay its a low price the blue mini grip sells at knife works for 60.00 the large 551 grip sells for 66.00 , ebay 80.00 and up . ebay is not the best place to buy it pays to shop around.

One of the more popular online knife retailers makes you type in a coupon code once you get to checkout that takes off around 25% on most Benchmade products including all the grips.

I think I paid something like $55 a couple of years ago for my full size grip. In all honesty, it's far from an $80 knife.

Benchmades are overpriced.

The Griptilian SHOULD be a $50-$60 knife.

I really enjoy mine, but really... 80 dollars for the Mini is just to much money especially considering all it has for handles is a non exotic boring Zytel plastic.

With Benchmade you pay for the name and the axis lock... thats about it in my opinion. :foot:

The $100+ price tag on the D2 Cabelas model is really rough. The scales are great at $60 but not much more...

In addition to the site others have mentioned, look at Grand Prairie Knives. They have prices well below Benchmade's MAAP -- which you'll be able to see once you add a knife to your cart and begin the checkout process -- as well as superb service.
