So I went to the EMERSON Web-sitr this am, as I got Christmas Cash. Wanted to order a knife and read Emerson Showroom is Closed Noon 12/24/2014 to 1/4/2015.

So are operations like order desk, shipping, etc. on Holiday also?

It's Christmas man, I'm with my family and shouldn't even be writing this right now because the wife would kill me! ;) Orders will be shipping out Monday with slightly delayed shipping times. Our employees deserve time off. Sorry for the inconvenience but it'll only be a few days.

Thanks for the reply. As I worked in a 7 x 24 x 365 business being self employeed, holidays were just another day, mostly hoped the phone or beeper never went off. But if it did someone need me some place in a hurry, and honesly it was just part of the pride of ownership thing. Plus people want big news stories covered by the press.

I'm self-employed too, and I'm pretty much off whenever I need. Unless it's an emergency, my clients can wait.

Merry Christmas EKI!

Yeah, I used to run a multi location business and was on call 24 7. It sucked!

If I was running a knife business, you can bet I'd be closed for the holidays! Pride of ownership?!? Yeah, but pride in a personal life should be higher priority!

It's a given in most cases, unless you happen to work at a huge chain store or are LEO/EMS or a public service.

I love working freelance doing still photos in the News Biz, it gave me opportunities to travel to place most people never go, it gave me the opportunity to meet people most will never get to meet, it was a wonderful life, and I would still be doing it. Had the internet, and 24 hour a day TV not killed print media.

I have friends still working for some of the publications I use to freelance for. The difference today they are doing most rerites, expenced accounts are only a memory, staff is only a skeloton of what it was, and most never put anything away for the day most of them could not imagine.

When I worked in the medical field it was 24 x 7 x 365, we never closed our doors, and I use to work most holiday as it was OT + a day off or added to vacation some day.

I do recall in my very young childhood when a National Holiday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or New Year happened. Most of the time ever business was closed.

Yes you could find Gas on the Interstate or Main Highways, maybe a Resturant was also open, Hospitals were open. Police & Fire, and the News Media worked, but everything else was pretty much closed. That all started to change in the 1960's or early 1970's.

Don't forget the people driving the tow trucks and flatbeds. When my mother had the salvage yard and we were running 4 flatbeds there was no such thing as a holiday, cars break down, people get drunk and get in accidents, there were many Christmas and New Years evenings that I had to pull some drunks car out of a ditch our out of someone else's trunk.

I can remember sitting at the TA truck stop having coffee and with the EMS guys, the State Troopers, usually the only other people awake at 3am on Christmas morning.

In the end I've never said, "...I wish I had spent more time at work." but when I was in UK during the Christmas holidays I do remember saying often, "...I wish I spent more time with my family."

Everyone ..its buying knives. Not buying medicine, or emergency services, if EKI wants to give their staff a break, more power to them. My life does not depend on fulfilling instant gratification. My McDonald's wasn't open today, I wanted coffee, so, instead I came home and made my own. I get so tired of people bitching and complaining on this forum, which is paid for by EKI. Move on.

I am all for EKI (and anyone else for that matter) choosing to close up shop for a few days and give employees some time to rest and enjoy down time with family. As already mentioned it is just buying a knife (aka new toy) for most of us.

I unfortunately (from a quality of life perspective anyway) am more or less on call 24/7 working for a company which supplies software which allows trading on global markets. There are very few (if any) days on which all global markets are all truly closed for business, which means that in theory I can basically get a call at anytime for help. Believe me when I say I am very grateful for the times when I can just sit back, relax, and know that no matter what my phone won't be ringing.

I think we all owe it to the great folks who make EKI what it is the opportunity to enjoy a few days to themselves without any stress from work they might need to deal with the rest of the year.

To my knowledge, manufacturers get free space here, they only need to provide a company employee to moderate it.

Maybe not bitching, but more like "#First World Problems!".
I got my X-mass $$$ and the small American family shop is closed for the Holidays and I can't spend my $$$ now!!!

It's the Holidays be glad that you have your health, family, loved ones and money to spend on knives!!!:D

I think the Internet & Twenty Four Hour a day NEWS update has made the World move faster, and we have got use to everything moving fast.

Friend who was in the Pacific with the U.S. Marine Corps Command a Company of Marines in WW-II told how it was back then. A Marine could be killed in an operation, and sometimes it took weeks or month for the news of a loved one being KIA got home.

Today we see War or Police Actions cover by the News Media in real time, so let ssay people are in FAST MODE, like Fast Food 24 x 7 x 365.

That has nothing to do with being open for the holidays. They need a break too. EKI is a family-owned and run business, so during the season, I'd imagine they'd want to spend it with each other and no one would be left watching the store. Sounds reasonable to me.

I don't think the OP meant to complain. I took it as an expression of disappointment followed by a question. Calm down everybody.

Hope your new Emerson finds you in good health AFTER the new year pennypincher.
