Where is everybody?

This used to be quite a lively forum. I had a lot of fun exchanging views with some of my more learned colleagues.

Lately, I notice there seems to be a certain quiet prevailing in the neighbourhood. Where has everybody gone to?

Surely, the chief tenants of Gurkha House have not gone off for holidays without informing its house guests?

Hello, hello, anybody at home?

I have a question:

How do Gurkha House khukuris compared with khukuris from other sources? What's the word on this anyway?

Golok,
I'm here! I'm sure a few others are about, but likely many of the regulars are off on summer holidays. We've been hearing from Craig rather sporadically over the past few months, I suspect he has some project or another in the works. Johan, Dan and I have tried to stir up a few conversations lately, but overall it has been very quiet indeed!

I think the GH khukuris will go edge to edge (pardon the pun) with the other major brands out there. They have a lifetime guarantee on the blade (see the GH web site under letters). Other manufacturers may have a higher level of finish, but the price is correspondingly higher for those knives. My pet peeve, is that the Karda and Chakma are generally quite small (except on the cheetlang model), and not hard enough. But to be fair, I have to say that I haven't tried a Chakma from ANY manufacturer that was hard enough to strike sparks off a flint.

Cliff Stamp has tested GH and other khukuris extensively, and his web site has some side by side comparisons that you may finds useful. Here's a link:

Summer is prime varmint season, and that means as much hoggin' as I can get in. The local weather's been a mite hot lately, so I'm giving the critters a short break, but there's always lots to learn and talk about on those kinds of boards (handloading, ballistics, optics, tweekin' up long range rigs, new calibers and such). Rest assured that a khukuri still goes with me to clear the briars and brush in the hides. And then there's work that consistently messes up what little free computer time that's left over.

My sincere apologies to all for being scarce...but I haven't strayed permanently.

Dan

Thanks, Outdoors for the positive response.

Oh, I didn't know it was summer out there. Over in my country, it is summer forever. Well, it must be a fine time to go out into the woods, if not for personal pleasure, at least to test a couple of newly acquired khuks.

Have a good holiday, friends.

Golok, you have my sympathy! I refrained from mentioning it in Bladeforums, but I am in a strenuous semester now, and I find it almost impossible to spend some time on Bladeforums. I would have preferred it to be different, but then again maybe it's for the better, 'cause I would have stirred up some dust and maybe a few tempers to the bargain. As it is, I'm finding time for minimal contributions at the moment. Even 'ol buddy Dan seems to have strayed out on his chuck hunts a bit further than I would have liked.

Sounds like maybe you didn't realise it, but Craig is moving his business, if I've got it straight. Guess that's why he's not around.

I'd like for GH Bladeforums to go from strength to strength, so what I guess I'm saying is we need to brush up on our act.
