Where is the Doyle Owl?

We just watched the video a couple of evenings ago and Yangdu commented that it was an UBE "stretched"!

I am very much in love with that sword. I am going to find somewhere to buy it. Anyone with suggestions, please send me emails or answer this post.

This place has a few interesting items. But warning the contents of this site can cause cardiac problems:

Actually, I believe that you're right about it being a stretched UBE. I definitely has more of a curve than the basic Yataghan, but I couldn't figure out what else to call it. Gonna look up some of my historic records and maybe find out what it might be. Needless to say, it is very nice looking, though I'm not sure what a "live blade" would feel like.

I don't recall seeing anyone given the credit for the design and manufacture of that sword in Blade. Has any of the other knife rags done an article on it that you know about?
Blade usually runs an article on the movie swords and knives.

We're gonna have to rent the video I guess if it's out. We haven't been to a theatre in I can't remember when.
The ticket price is bad enough and the smell of the movie popcorn always sets Barb and my mouth watering so a stop at the concession is an absolute must!!!! ;)

Can't blame the spelling mistakes on the keyboard anymore.

DD,

It seems I remember seeing a thread on those over on the sword forum back when the movie first came out. I think there was a response that gave the name of some makers... but then my memory shrank by 50% when I turned forty at the beginning of the month... maybe they were just talking about them.

Try a search over there and see what comes up...

I too love the idea of a stretched UBE... that was what inspired me to try and design the two handed khuk... When I get to it (this winter) I'm going to use the UBE as a starting point and build a model. I just scoped out a nice two bedroom apartment that'll work nicely as an office/studio/workshop... I even found a Foreman tool for model making (and I think I have the girlfriend convinced it is the perfect Xmas present :D)...

Hi Rene,

Look under the bridge in the canyon. You may find an ancient sword, or an owl. Who knows?

Oh man... I did it again :o

All this terrorist stuff has got my fuddled brain back in Europe again. Either that, or my typing skills have out evolved my thinking capability and my fingers get ahead of my brain...

... What the heck was I thinking again???

:D:D:D

It's getting close to supper time, and Al is confusing his George Foreman burger grill with what he wants for Xmas.

Actually, that might be it... I had George Foreman grilled burgers last night for dinner :D:D:D

For any one interested, I found a line drawing of the exact sword in question on page 134 of Sir Richard Burtons "Book of the Sword". If any one is interested, let me know, and I'll email a scan of the page. It also somewhat resembles a Celtic Scramasax also pictured in the same book.
