I know I ain't the daily exercise guy, but I did read the threads even though I had no idea of what you guys where talking about.

I've been riding the bicycle a little less and walking more, I carry a pack mostly loaded with water, fishing equipment, a drop cloth, fire stuff and the old S&W Model 10-8. Last weekend I walked about 5 miles, it was in the 90s with very high humidity. Felt good, no problems, I just have to remember to wear thicker socks.

Anyhow I'm down to 179 lbs from 264 and feeling good about that, much lighter on my feet, much better endurance and wind, walking up 5 flights a stairs is much less effort than previously. I know I'm not aggressively working out but I am in it for the long haul, I've been at it consistently for 16 months now, changed activity patterns, eating habits and just generally doing better things.

That's freaking 85 pounds, I can carry many more knives now :)

 You're right, Koyote has been slacking. I don't think there was even April fitness skills thread.

We had our university's weighlifting club's powerlifting meet yesterday. I was hoping to do a 450kg total, but came 20kilos short. Considering I've been frantically finishing my master's thesis for the last two months and training has been put to backburner, and my left shoulder is still not up to par, it was an ok performance. I've only managed to do couple gym sessions and maybe one karate class per week in addition to the one beginner's class session I've been teaching.

My weight has been holding quite steadily around 87 kilos, I haven't really stressed about it even though I was hoping to be 85kilos yesterday. I'll do a one week stint of PSMF'ing now and that should do the trick.

Good job. I could lose about 10

Nice job hushnel, keep working hard and you'll thank yourself for it later. My school is starting training for XC so I'm getting some pre-season workouts done. Nothing like running 3+ miles at a steady race pace in 90 degree weather!

I have been slacking!

I'll hit the june one in a day or two.

We're doing a bunch of getting ready to move stuff, and Jessica had her finals, graduation, and NCLEX all this month, combined with family visits. Got me all distracted.

That's my problem. Haven't changed the bad habits, haven't done a decent workout since grass-cutting started, and was only doing them occasionally before that. Finally realized I'd passed the point where "maintaining" turns into deteriorating, and hiking one or two days a week while overeating and daydreaming the rest of the time has turned into a steep downhill slope. Guess I got lazy somewhere along the way...

I gotta in on this Fitness Activity!!! I'm in horrible condition and need to get serious about it.

Is this an open participation activity?

Sure! grab a girya and start swinging!

Actually, there's everything from rehab hiking to greviks, caveman workouts and endurance running and gym based bodybuilding.....

We're mostly just using the monthly thread for bragging rights, support, momentum, and chatting.

There's some off and on warning about the dangers of doing things- especially from the non gireviks :D But the only injury I've managed int he last year was stupidly falling down a slope while hiking.

Nobody warned you about the dangers of that?

Them giryas will turn y'all into commies. It's a huge conspiracy :D

Bench press and kurls... the amerikan way to lift ;)

Great!!! I'm needing an *extra* source of motivation. I'm not new to the fitness thing - maintained a resting pulse between 26-32 for about 11 years, but that's a decade or so ago...

I'm needing to get my aerobic capacity and lactic acid tolerance up to 'snuff. I'm not looking to set any weight-lifting records (maybe weight-DROPPING), but gotta get to a realistic climbing weight/strength ratio.

Hushnel, that is awesome! A diet isn't supposed to be an unsustainable short term eating pattern. Wild animals work at their diets, and it keeps them in good shape. As humans, we also need to work at our diets, like you are, and then you can enjoy the benefits. Now that you lost some weight though... you have to start working out and trying to put it back on!:D

Still working on the Wendler 5/3/1, a little over 2 months now, and still like it a lot. I keep a tiny sheet with my workout on it, and keep notes on it while at the gym. It is neat to log everything over the course of time, and see that a weight you could do 4 times a month ago you can do for 7 or 8 reps now!

No recent breakthroughs, I was in the hills for a week last week, and was taking it real easy the week before that so I would be in top shape while I was out. I can say though that being in better shape let me do bushwacking and kayaking that I would not have otherwise been able to do. With a little planning, I was able to eat healthy foods while I was out, too.

The last two weekends I've been camping. This weekend was social camping at Sebastian Inlet, it was pretty active though. I took off on the bicycle full out and kept it up for a surprising long time, at least for me. I found some extra lung space and started using it. I slowed down my breathing while maintaining full out. I don't have any clue but it was cool.

Last weekend it was just me at Fisheating Creek. I hiked, canoed and did a bit of fishing. My wind and endurance is 4 or 5 fold what is was a year ago and with a very short recovery time.

I am gaining strength but you got to remember how screwed up I am after wrecking myself so many times :) I have to improvise ways of gaining strength, the normal route is a no go, I'm a mess and loving it.
