In the review forums, there was mention of the Randall forum; where is this?

Also, how come with the popularity of Benchmade, there is no Benchmade forum.

Thanks,

Albin

I can't answer the Randall question. However, re: Benchmade, it's my understanding that they want to maintain an extremely high level of control over content and the like so they prefer to use the Forum on their web site.

OK, cancel the first question, I just found the Randall forum under "General Discussion", instead of the manufacturers forum. Its not really a Randall site, per se, but appears to be a RMK collector's site.

Re: Benchmade. OK, why don't they do what Swamp Rat and Busse do and have the forum lead us to their site?

Thanks,

Albin

Whereas Randall Made Knives (RMK's) are well thought of by many here at BFC, it was made painfully clear to us sometime back (when many of our posts/threads were modified/deleted), that this is 'not' a RMK forum, but more like a 'Randall Knife Society' (RKS) forum...managed and directed by a few individual's 'with a certain personal/financial/vested agenda'...

As such, many of us serious RMK collectors here at BFC (my wife and I alone have close to 50), simply refuse to post in that forum on a regular basis...

Sad state of affairs that it is; until such time that BFC management here (Spark) takes measures to clarify the purpose of the forum in question, I'm afraid that it will remain as such, boycotted...

The real downside of this situation is, one of the most popular knives ever made, collected and used by tens of thousands of knife enthusiasts worldwide, is seriously under-represented here at the largest knife user forum 'IN THE WORLD'...funny that eh? ;)

On the other hand (sorry 'bout this Kevin), the Randall Made Knives forum over at knifeforums.com is pretty active, as is the user group at the new 'theleanto' forum...

In the mean time, if you'd like to talk RMK's, some of us have a bit of info on this maker, and are more than willing to share what we (think we) know...so feel free to ask away.

Mel, the (still) pissed.

We don't have an official Randall Made Knives forum because our policies require an official representative from the company as moderators for any manufacturer forum. Should someone from Randall wish to take part, we'd be happy to open one up.

With regards to the deleting of posts & censorship, that certainly should not be happening on this site, period. I have been unaware of any problems regarding this because they have not been brought to my attention.

That being said, the Randall Knife Society forum is centered around the Randall Knife Society. Since I don't read that forum, I cannot speak for what does and does not occur there.

Albin,

This is Rhett Stidham, founder and owner of the Randall Knife Society, Inc. collector's group for Randall Made Knives. I look at both www.knifeforums and www.bladeforums every day so as to answer related questions about Randall collecting and Randall knives. All of the Moderators are somewhat knowledgable about Randall knives.

We do not tolerate bad talk and personal agendas to defame other individuals. As far as posts that have been deleted those were posts that had nothing to do with Randall knives and had gotten out of hand.

I feel the reason there is not much action on BladeForums is that most of the action was just repeating what was being discussed on KnifeForums. I hope this is the case and have not been advised of a boycott. BladeForums does not allow any censorship by moderators and to me, it would be more active for those so inclined to be mean spirited. I am not saying that it is, but could be.

Knife collecting is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Most of us get enough aggravation in real life so that when someone tries to aggravate our hobby, we turn them off. Such is the case, for one particular individual who was so mean spirited, he was turned off.

I will be visiting with Gary Randall this morning and I will ask him about a Randall Made Knives Forum.

And please come to the Randall Knife Society Forum any time on either, www.knifeforums or www.bladeforums.

Best regards,

Rhett Stidham

The Swamp Rat and Busse forums are part of Bladeforums. There are links on the Makers & Manufacturers Forums leading to the company websites, where they also have their own forums.

Since when do you need Benchmade's permission to have a Benchmade forum? I'm sure they are sitting around a pool drinking Mojitos with all the buttah they are making off this site. I just gave Benchmade another $100. Crikey!

Buttah?

Read Spark's post again. I quote: "because our policies require an official representative from the company as moderators for any manufacturer forum."

That's why. :)

Albin,

I talked with Gary Randall this morning in regard to a Randall Made Knives company forum. There will not be one in that he/they just do not have the time to participate. Running Randall made Knives is a very demanding job.

The Randall Knife Society forum does have the blessing and approval of Gary Randall and Randall Made Knives, though.

Rhett,

Thanks for the info. I'll be checking in when time permits. I'm interested in the M-14 from RMK, but I have to save up some money and probably I'll wait until I visit my parents, who live in Winter Park, FL and just order direct from RMK while in the shop.

This will be my second RMK; my first was stolen while in transit while moving from Orlando to Seattle in 1980. It was a M #5-5 with my name on the blade. It was a beautiful knife and I really regret not taking the knife with me instead of packing into my stuff to be moved by the movers. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks again.

Albin
