The title says it all.

While I might not have been one of the most active members around here, I feel like I still owe everyone an explanation for why I dropped off of the face of the earth about two months ago.

Quite a bit has been happening in my life in the last few months, and I thought I'd try to summarize before I got back into things.

Whats been happening:
1) My wife graduated from college
2) My youngest sibling got married
3) We moved to CA for an internship that I didn't think I was going to land
4) I've been busy impressing my coach and boss for the first 6 weeks of my internship, and just had a very favorable "mid-internship review"

I've talked to MKK a bit here and there, but other than that I've basically dropped off of the face of the earth as far as BF has been concerned. Now, I'm not saying that I'm going to be around tons for the near future, but I am trying to make my way here a bit more frequently than I have been.

Also, to keep it on topic, these are the only two Beckers that made their way here to CA with me, on the off chance that I would be able to both find a place to camp, and the spare time to pull it off. So far neither have happened, but we'll see if I can change that. Anybody know of a place to camp around San Jose that DOESN'T cost money or come with a faucet and a paved parking spot?

I'm looking to add a BK16 to this list here pretty soon as well.

Anyway, thanks guys, its good to be back :).

good to hear from ya. There will always be a place for you here, when you get time. As far as CA, obviously you want to head south to Mex for all your beach camping needs!

Good to hear from ya, Logan. I too have been missing in action for a week or two.

Summer's the months that I actually go out and use knives. :D

Welcome back dude.

And no, he is not lying. i've been bothering him quite a bit.

And hey, this thread just made me realize that a REALLY NEED A BK-9!

Congratulations to you and your wife! Where at in Cali are you? I stayed just S. of LA during my time there. BK2 & BK9, what else do you need?

Thanks guys, its good to be back :).

Sadly, BRL mexico is a bit farther than I want to go for a weekend trip. I'm up in the northern part of Silicon Valley by San Jose and San Fransisco. I think Mexico is a good 500 - 600 miles from here.

If I do get an offer out here I'll have to find some "real" camping. The local folder laws prohibit anything > 3in blade length (in the city), but I haven't seen anything about fixed blade length while camping.

I'm thinking I'll try to enter the June contest, seeing how I'm in a city, and want a BK16. Now I just have to find something that I can make with plastic shopping bags...

Congrats on the internship and the favorable review! That quite adequately explains your absence.

And with the now existing situation with Mexico and the immigration fiasco, I would certainly think twice before camping south of the border . . . even with a BK9 in my kit . . . ;)

Castle Rock State Park is a good place to start. Just outside of Saratoga south of San Jose

Thanks for the tip man :). I can't help but notice, you've been a member here for 2 years and you quit your vow of silence with quite a helpful comment. It doesn't look all that far from me here (I'm in Mountain View interning for Microsoft), and from what I can tell it doesn't seem to cost anything. Do you know if the campsites are only accessible by hiking? I didn't bring most of my camping gear with me, and its hard to tell by googling it if there is anything close enough to not need a backpack.

Also ralphtt thanks for the tip. Besides the long drive, I have heard enough stories to know I don't want to camp down there if I have the choice, and certainly not alone.

I believe Castle Rock is only accessible by hiking. Can't think of any other way of getting there anyway.

There are a few other areas nearby, such as Mount Madonna and Saratoga Springs.
