I've seen several types, and they make for a nice display. They'd be beautiful in a dark burl saatisal if anyone took the care to produce a really nice one. Thanks! Dan :)

DrDan?

You might consider...having one made there, instead of going through international sales and shipping, customs...etc.

There are marvelous craftsman in Italy..as you well know...many who work wood in ways of wonderment (I DO love alliteration!) AND, it would be 'special' for you and yours.

justathought.

Look around for katana stands. Err on the beefy side if you can. There are plenty around. Even some on ebay.

Kismet... Italy abounds with all sorts of artisans... Goldsmiths, shoemakers, tailors, carpenters, leather goods, engravers, etc., etc. I believe that is why Italy is part of G7 (or, G8 if you include Russia). Italy's organisation, customer service, etc. is quite different from that of England, Germany, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. Night and day. :D

Munk... Your way would definitely bring the most satisfaction. :) I could pick out the wood myself, design it just like I want, and spend some time creating a unique object that will most likely become an heirloom of sorts. I do have a friend who has all the equipment, so I might just act on your input... ;) Thanks

Pendentive... Thanks! I like the more delicate one, as they really show off the khukuri nicely. The Himalayan Imports webstite has an especially nice one displaying Bura's M-43 Hanshee. I would imagine that it's Nepalese, and was carved by a Newari. I'd prefer custom, not factory made. Munk's idea would surely bring about the best result, especially if I were a helper on the project. :D

Dan, see if you can find some odd pieces of Olive Burl. Olive Burl is among one of the most beautiful woods in existence IMO!!!!
And since there's a lot of olives in Italy....
There was once, perhaps still is, a high popularity with coffee, end tables and the like made with slabs of many species, Olive Burl among them, absolutely beautiful pieces!!!!
If you could find some small odd shaped pieces that have already been cleaned up there may not be much to fashioning an extraordinarily beautiful khukuri stand.:D

I agree with you that olive burl is one of the prettiest woods, especially if it's high grade. There are many quality furniture shops around, and you've given me a great idea... I'm sure i can pick up presentation quality pieces for a proverbial song, and get a carpenter to put together a knockout stand. Thanks! Dan :)

You're welcome Dan. When you get it done have two made so you can send one to me, gratis of course for the idea.:D ;)

In reality I wouldn't know where to put a knife stand to display even my Kothimoda. We live in a very small house and it's crammed to the ceilings with all sorts of art work and artifacts.
This spring Barb and I are having a very large yard sale so we can actually put out our really nice pieces on display.:D
I have dayumed near as many ndn Flutes as I do khuks! :o

If you'll be selling off any of your collector khukuris, do let me and all forumites know well in advance! :D
