Quick question: In order to use my ESEE 6 with a ferro rod, how much of the blade coating must I remove and where is the best area to remove it from? Maybe a few pics to help out also?
I haven't used a fire steel with my coated blades, so this is going off of assumption, but I would do edges as well, because that is going to be where you are making the contact.
You might try it first...all you need for a ferro rod to work is a hard edge. Doesn't even have to be steel or even all that sharp. I've done it with a rock and piece of glass before. It kills me to see people use their knife edge for this since it dulls it quickly.
