Where NOT to buy knives...

I just call a local knife store by the name of CUTTER's CORNER which is in Great Northern mall in Ohio.

I ask the guy that answers if they stock the Benchmade 707. He says "I don't know, I can't see them from here". He then tells me that they do carry Benchmade and I can just come up. I live about 30 miles from this place. I then tell him I would like to know what he is asking (price wise) for the 707. He says "I don't know, I'm in the middle of something right now". I ask if there is anyone else there that I can talk to, and he says no.

How the heck does this place expect to sell knives? I have no idea. That was the crappiest service over the phone I have ever had. I wanted to ask the guy about a few other knives but he said he couldn't talk. Why the heck did he answer the phone then? He just made a worse impression on me than if he would have just not answered.

Note To Self: Keep buying from New Graham and don't buy locally.

That's the 2nd local shop that acts like they don't give two craps whether I buy a knife there or not. That's OK. With the prices way out of control they wont be in business much longer anyway.

What a shame.

Incredible. With their greater overhead, local shops are pretty well forced to charge more than internet sales. The only thing they have to recommend them is service and convenience.

Sad but true. Exactly why so many Brick and Mortar stores are closing their doors these days. Poor Customer Service combined with Retail pricing equals "Going Out Of Business" Soon!

Someone needs to give that kid a lesson in phone etiquette... :barf:

What's even sadder is that it wasn't a kid. It was a guy that I've seen in the store before. I would guess him between 35-40 years old.

:(

This is why mall jobs like this should be comission-driven. Otherwise, the majority of the workers will work just hard enough not to get fired, because they are paid just enough not to quit.

My local knife store is not as cheap as the internet, but if you ask anyone behind the counter what the difference between any 2 BM models is, they will talk your ear off. I think it's a function of the individual store.

The guy I buy from, who has his shop set up at a farmers market, is knowledgeable about the knives he sells, and actually has used knives before. He knows his steels, can sharpen anything and has the gift of gab. He's going to close up his shop at the end of the year if things don't get better and will start selling on eBay. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.

I'm a nice guy. If I call with a question and someone is busy I'll usually tell them I'll call back later. As long as they're nice to me, I'll be nice to them; and I try my best to treat my customers the same as well.

Someone recently wrote a bad check and the cashier didn't get an address on the check, so it was sent back to us. I called the number on the check and asked if this was who wrote the check. It was, but she said she coudln't talk about it now, she was very busy and it just wasn't that important. I could hear a TV blaring an afternoon talk show in the background. I told her that it was ok, but she needs to come down and give us our money or her name and license number will go on a national negative file and she'll have trouble passing checks anywhere. At this point, I was hung up on.

If someone calls me with a question about an item, I'll do what I can to see if we have it. If I'm not busy, I'll go look myself and see. But if I am busy, someone in the store will know if we have it. It's just good customer service, but that's a dying art.

Then he is still a Kid as far as phone etiquette is concerned... Anyone who deals directly with customers on the phone should know better than to give those kind of responses. I guess this just hits close to home for me as I spent many years in retail...

i once ordered a benchmade model 705 recently over the internet, the next day i got an email:

-they are out of stock they are gettin them in 2 weeks-

from were?

yea i often wonder how people like that get a job, if it is his store why open a store and act like that.
