Hey guys I have a question about knives as self-defense tools. It's a pretty simple question, and it dosen't require a gore filled answer. However I have seen a simple question about SD blades turn into a major thing about the misuse of knives as nothing other than weapons of death and misery. Now I understand where you guys come from. It bothers me to when a movie or book portrays knives as evil things that the BGs like to use because they cause cause such pain and suffering. None the less it is important to understand wher the other side is coming from.Yes a knife dose do horrible things to the human body when it is used as a weapon.

This is a fact that cannot be dismised. But as any common sense oriented person knows the primary purpose of an edged object is as a tool to be use in construction/arts and crafts/and general utility. This is not why I'm writing though my question has to do with whitch blade grind is best for self-defense.But I do not wish to anger anybody by posting a thread in an inapropriate area so could you direct me to an area for SD dicussion,or should I just post here?

Thank you for your timeand understanding.

Depends, slashing should be better with a hollow grind, but you would get more stregth and therefore lees risk of breaking when stabbing with a full flat grind, depends how you plan on fighting i suppose. Full convex grind would be good for stabbing as well but not as super sharp as a hollow grind for slashing. IMO the best blade overall for self defence for me anyways since im a slasher would be a Clip point hollow grind in the 3-4" range, if you go fixed i would use a 10-12"+ clip point/Bowie with a full flat grind. Just my opinion.

Don't mind a bit Rifter. Go ahead.:D :D :D :D

but what I meant was what type of edge whould work best for defense.Primarily slashing. Do you prefer chisel grind(I think thats what it's called.I'm talking about only sharpening the blade on one side.)or V grind(sharpened on both sides?). I just love how informetive the people on these forums are. Thank You all so much.
