Many people ask where I came up with this name for the business. I thought I would throw a post up here.
"Skunks are sometimes called polecats because of their visual similarity to the European polecat (Mustela putorius), a member of the Mustelidae family. Skunks are closely related to the weasel group and although they are now generally classified as a separate family within the same order, some taxonomists still place them as a subfamily of the Mustelidae." cited from yahoo answers.
In Idaho skunks are sometimes refered to as pole cats (and are actually in this family of varmint too). So when you see that a skunk has had the most unfortunate encounter on the road, one might say "Mashed Cat". There is also a very popular song by Loudon Wainwright III.
I picked up the name from my Grandfathers sign he had posted at his back country cabin on the middle fork of the Salmon river, which can be seen in the about us section on the web site. At first I thought it to be a humorous business name, now I find that it's quite an unforgettable name and works well for recognition.
The cat in my avitar is actually a monogram of an M and C, which obviously stands for Mashed Cat. It just worked out that they looked like a cat as well! Yeah me!
Hope you like the story, now go check out the song!
