Title pretty much says it all :D

Can anyone point a noob to a good place to find some 1084 to make a hunting knife? I'm planning on going with something 3/16 thickness, unless someone can suggest reasons for a different thickness.

Getting harder to find, I think Aldo Bruno is just about the only person to get it from now. You can get 1080 from Admiral Steel or Kelly Cupples which will work the same as 1084. I don't know if Aldo has any 3/16" stock, I have never ordered from him, but he has a great reputation here.

Aldo's email:
njsteelbaron@gmail.com

Kelly Cupples info:
octihunter@charter.net
2807 Butterfield Rd.
Yakima Wa. 98901
509-949-5231
You can get Kelly's latest inventory list by emailing him or you can go to Darren Ellis' website and look under blade steel.

Admiral Steel:
www.admiralsteel.com

I would wait for someone else to come by and tell you the status of Aldo's stock before emailing. I don't know what he has left in 1084.

I like 1084 much better than 1080. Aldo's will be 1/4" but it would be worth it to check
with him and Kelly also.

Admiral is having a 'close out' sale on their 1-1/4" x 1/8" HR 1084 in 5' lengths is $7.00 per bar. They say when it's gone, it's gone.

I have about 30 feet of that stuff left. It's rough from just being hot rolled, and it's not annealed, and at first I had trouble drilling holes in it, but once I got a few good drill bits, it hasn't been a problem at all.

1/8" seems to be a good thickness for the few blades that I've made.

Hope this helps a little bit.
