Where to buy boxes (chef-knife sized)?

Anyone ever found a good source for chef-knife-sized boxes? Not the box you actually slap the label on and ship in, but a box to put the knife itself in?

I've not been able to find anything I can order off-the-shelf, vs. custom orders with a die-charge in quantities of 100 or more. Looked at boxes for ties, companies like ULine, etc. - you'd THINK somebody'd make a box that was like 14-15"/40cm x 3"/6-7cm x 2"/5cm deep, or close enough -- but I've not found one.

I'd prefer a nice thicker white coated 'chipboard' - apparently the industry term for non-corrugated cardboard. (My dream would be one of those with magnetic closure - but hey, I'll take almost anything at this point.) One suggestion I heard from a mfg rep was to find someone who's already got a die made for generic boxes and then place in effect a 'piggyback' order, as they already have the capacity...

Any thoughts? Recommended mfgs? (Esp. USA mfg's!?!)

I've also been on the hunt for this exact same thing. The closest options I've found are:

14" Tie boxes: 3/4" deep should fit most chef knives. Amazon also has them in smaller quantities though they're more expensive per unit

14" Corrugated mailers: bulky (14"x4"x2" L-W-D) and kind of a pain to assemble but hold up really well

15" Corrugated mailers: Same as above, but only 2" square in cross section.

If anyone else has specific suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

I searched, even tried making my own custom ones with cool paper and all. The nightmare that was freshman year 3d design and the entire semester of making models out of paper came back to me...No Thanks!
I ended up buying the large zippered pouches from one of the knife suppliers and have been using those. They are like 7$ so not cheap but in the end I think its a better product than a box. You can have them made with your own logo too.

I work in an office with a print/ copy center. The boxes that the spines for binding presentations come in a white box that is 14"x5"x1.5". We aren't a huge office and over the last month, I've collected over 15 of them. Maybe you know someone that has access to these. The would be tossed if I didn't need them.

this is a great post! not to hijack but using these boxes how (pictures are great) do you pack/ship you knives? I feel like my usps boxes with bubble wrap looks like crap and not very professional..? Anyone have custom boxes with their logos?

That's commonly done in jewelry with hot stamp foil.

There is a fixed fee for prepping the die and setup, then per piece for each box.

If you do a hundred at a time it comes out reasonable on folder sized boxes.

the 2" high boxes are no good (for me) as they don't fit into priority mail packaging

I think the best thing to do is for someone to organize a group buy of 5 makers at 100 boxes each.....or something alone these lines.
I went thru the same frustration as the OP and others here.
I finally got lucky and learned that one of my teachers buys large quantities of kitchen knife boxes and makes available to his students so I was finally able to get some nice ones that are the correct size. Sorry I can't help you, you have to be a student of his.
