I'm looking for a place to buy EK in Southern Michigan. Thanks. Or dealers in general in Mi.

Mike

Sorry, I don't know about dealers in MI, but is there a reason why you don't want to buy online?

Hi Ken,

I bought a cqc7b a couple of years ago. I liked the concept, I liked the design, the size, and the shape. The problem was the liner lock jammed frequently and it would take both hands with some heavy duty squeezing to free it. I took it back to the dealer (they no longer sell EK). The one other C7 they had did the same thing. They said they would not order any more due to high rate of returns.

Well its been some time since that all happened. So I figure things may have improved since then.

A few weeks ago I called a online dealer to order a mini c7a. They said I should consider something else because of QC problems. The dealer said they return 40-60 % of new Emersons and were going to stop stocking them.

Well it looks like the more things change the more they stay the same.

All that being said I still would like one of the good ones. But I beleive I need to handle and inspect it in person.

Cmon theres got to be some knife stores in Mich.

Also noticed quite a few of the posts here have to do with QC issues. Is the manufacturing process different with some of newer models?

Mike.

I don't know if he maintains a brick and mortar storefront, but Phil at www.2thehilt.com is located in the Grand Rapids area. I've had good luck dealing with him over the Internet and he is an Emerson dealer that also advertises here on Bladeforums.

Howdy Mike,

I'm in Brighton as well and there is nothing in our area. Any strictly knife shops in the malls, well...suck, at least the ones I've been to. The only places I can think would have what you're looking for would be Surplus City/Metropolitan Uniform in Westand, corner of Ford Rd. and Wayne Rd. They supply equipment to a lot of the LEO's, EMT's and Fire in the county. They have been able to get or find quite a bit of equipment for me in the past (duty gear/leather). As for knowledge about knives it's been pretty slim, but they do have a few counters of decent production knives. Good shop to check out. Or you can go further east to Harry's Army Surplus in Dearborn on the corner of Ford Rd. and Telegraph Rd., they might have Emersons but they have a lot of cheap crap too. Might be worth a call before that trip. South at Cabela's, I've never seen Emersons, but well worth the trip regardless. Great Lakes crossing has a knife shop, but, I asked for Chris Reeve's and Emerson's and I got a blank stare......not a high confidence level. One down fall is you'd pay full retail at any of these places if that matters to you.

Phil and 2thehilt is a little drive from us but still may be worth checking out. I'm sure he'll pre-screen knives for you prior to sending out. He has been very responsive to any past inquiries I've had with him. I would hope that most internet site would accept the un-used knife back if you weren't happy with it.

If you can wait a couple months the Wolverine Collectors Club annual shows is January 25,26,27 in Novi. Always a great show. http://expage.com/page/wkcc

Hope this helps....good luck and have a good holiday season.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I also have tried most or those dealers. I go to all the WKCC shows including the mini in Sept. I really enjoy the Jan. show. Only minus is these guys pack up and leave 2 hours before the show ends. Which shows me no class.

Regards

Mike
