ok well ive made a few knives with crappy steel till i got the technique down and now im looking to buy some better steel, im not sure where to find it,

i also have a guy that will heat treat it for me

ANY info would be great since im pretty new at this

and sorry if this is in the wrong section

Go to MSC.COM, or any good machinist supply store, look at a few differant places so you dont get ripped off. Any place that sells you steel should be able to give some good advice about heattreating. Hope this helps.

Here on the makers forum, knifemaking tolls and supplies. Good prices and good steel.

Keep in mind, that different steels require different heat treatments for the optimum results.

Paul Bos can HT almost everything, except M2, M4 and CPM S90V. His equipment does not work on required for this steel temperatures.

It's true he can't harden those steels to their max hardness, but he can still heat treat them. His oven goes up to 2100 °C which can get M4 up to HRC 63 after tempering. 60 after tempering for S90V, which is about the max hardness you would want for S90V anyway.

plus the guys that will do the heat treat for me are very well known knife makers on this forum, so they know their stuff for sure
