Hi there,

I'm popping over to Paris on tuesday and have 2 hours to spare which I hope to use efficiently and doing important stuff. So :

What's the best place to buy knives (pref. vustoms) and swrods in Paris?

Best wishes, Staffan

Hi there:

Been to paris a few weeks ago, and found this nice store:

"ARMES BASTILLE" 61 Rue De Lyon F-75012 Paris, Tel: +33- 01-43-43-46-90

Take the Metro to the Republique station, that will take you to the Place de la Republique.
At the northern (??) side of the large square, you will find Boulevard Voltaire, with two very interesting knife shops at no more than 50 metres from the square. One sells military surplus and a lot of production knives (Spyderco, Benchmade, Al Mar, Cold Steel, etc) and the other one has many hunting knives, some of them might be custom.
Two hours well spent! Don't forget to buy the full-color catalogue (40FF) for future reference.

Just a short note:

I have been to these two stores - they were VERY unfriendly and obnoxious.

The other storeowner was helpful, friendly and willing to answer questions.

He also gave me a 15% reduction for being a collector.

Would you believe it???

And my wife is French so she communicates with them frog eaters in their language...

Not only are the Parisians unfriendly to Americans, they dislike other French people too. You're nobody if you aren't Parisian...

The people in Strassbourg are a lot friendlier.

Remember to keep a few coins in your pocket for pay toilets. The pay ones are usually kept very clean, but woe be unto those who venture into a non-pay restroom.

have fun,

Hi guys,

Thank's for the advice on Paris. I'll check out the courteous Parisians and be sure to have some coins with me at all times.

Best wishes, Staba-san

Bonjour!
I am a little late to give an advice to Staba-san. But for the next of you going to the french capital and looking for a good knife shop, i have a good one.
Really a MUST for knife nuts is a visit at

Kindal, Coutellerie Suedoise, Avenue de l'Opéra.

Madame Kindal, who is from swedish origin, is the owner of this small shop about a half mile down the road from the Paris Opera. The family is in business since more than a hundret years. They have all kinds of knives, razors and other knife related items and are specialized in custom knives from all over the world. Bottom of the line in customs are things like hand made Laguioles, Randalls and such. They carry the major brands of quality factory knives, too. It is a very beautiful shop with old wooden display cases on the walls and helpful, friendly people working there. Don't miss it, but don't go there with your credit card in your pocket!

Which opera - the old or the new?

And don't think you will not be held responsible for us going there with our credit cards...

He is right: kindal is one of the best places
for knife shopping in Paris. The precise address is the following:
33 avenue de l'opera
75002 Paris
their fax is: 01.42.64.75.34
Another great place is:
_armurerie courty_
44, rue des petits-champs,75002 paris.
I hope this helps,
François.

Again,

I'd like to thank You all again for Your advice. I'll be shure to look up the store the next time I go to Paris (maybe I should try to time it with the Paris knife-show?)

Best wishes, Staba-san
