Hello everyone,
I am very new in the knife making world and I am trying to figure out where the best place to get materials from is. Especially wood for handles and brass for guards, pins, etc. I don’t want to waste money buying supplies from the first website I see online and figured someone with more experience would be able to point me in the right direction to be able to find affordable materials. Thanks in advance for any advice, it’s much appreciated.

I use Pops for belts and micarta and a few other things. I mostly use NJ Steel Baron for steel though AKS is awesome too. For big orders the shipping cost may make you prefer the closest location. Those 2 places will get you started making knives. Check the stickies for a larger list. The places Mr Lewis mentioned are great too and are great for more specialized items.

I often use Tru Grit, USA Knifemakers, Alpha Knife Supply, Knife kits for kydex rivets and supplies.

The others mentioned here are very good also

Depending on what woods exactly you are after, you can also check out my website. The link is in my signature line.

Greenberg for hard to find wood, various Instagram sellers for neat resin stuff, New Jersey Steel baron for steel if they have what I want, TruGrit for my belts, Supergrit for sandpaper (redline rhynowet), and Jantz for most of my day-to-day supplies (epoxy, pins, drills, etc).

All of them because I have yet to place an order with any one company for everything I need to complete a few projects.

Pops for belts.

It'd help to know where you're located. Although many places will ship world wide, shipping can become cost prohibitive is certain cases. If you're in USA, this usually isn't a problem, but as of right now, we have no idea where you're located.

Pretty much any of the places posted I've bought from except knofe kits. I just get my kydex stuff from USA KM. But I've ordered from Jants, USAKM, Texas KM, Tru Grit, Super Grit, Pops KS, Aldo's (NJSB), Alpha KS, McMaster Carr, Online Metals, Knife and Gun Ffinishing Supplys. Probably a few more but just whoever has what I'm specifically looking for at the time .

You can't go wrong with Greenberg woods.

Take a look at Jantz too. I have never been disappointed with any of my orders from them. They have some textured G10 scales that I have not seen elsewhere.

I get sheets of G10 from Alpha Knife Supply.

I have heard good things about ebayer craigstevensstudio and have been pleased with my purchases from ebayer gotwood001.

My experience with ebay: I have been buying on there since 2003. My very first purchase was a little disappointing, but then I figured out a solution: I only do business with people who have above-average feedback scores. I looked at a lot of feedback scores and calculated that the average is 99.6%, so I never do business with anyone who has below 99.7%. That's not 97%. That's 99.7%. My other guideline: I make sure they have lots of past transactions involving a variety of buyers.

I am partial to Bellforest for handle wood. I like Combat abrasives for my belts, Metals4U now sells 4142 so that has been fun. Other than those I use most of what everyone has already said.
