Hello all,
Sorry for the newby question but I was just wondering where you guys buy your pin material. All I need is quarter inch diameter rod and think its kind of a shame to order such a small package from texas knife supply or some other supplier. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jake

go to the local hobby shop or better yet...Tractor Supply...there cheaper :)

Also, heavy duty electrical wiering is sometimes solid copper.

If you plan on using that pinning material for bolsters in the future, then I'd suggest getting both the bolster material and the rod at the same knifemakers supply source from the same material. Otherwise you can end up with your pins showing up like headlights when you finish polish that bolster.

Just a thought.

This is true. If you buy bolster or guard brass with lead and use brazing rod for pins. Check with your supplier. If there is lead in the brass it will pit, snap, crackle and pop along with emitting a gas when high heat is applied for testing for lead content. They must be compatible.
