Hey i want to buy some steel and not spend a crazy amount because its coming for Georgia? Anywhere to buy some good steel thats shipping is closer to cali?

Within the continental US the price of shipping is pretty much the same regardless of where it comes from. Three reliable suppliers areUSA Knifemakers, AKS , Texas Knife Supply, and Pop's. Tru-Grit has some stainless knife steel.

hey so thank you. I browsed on it and i really only see damascus lol. So when you go their to buy what do you get?

At Trugrit click on knife components, steel and then on the "material" button, top right.

they stainless, tool steel etc.

USA Knifemaker also has a good selection of steel, abrasives, and blade blanks. They are also a drama steel supplier, and one of only a few places that seem to carry 0.07” stock. As Stacy said, shipping costs do not seem to depend on distance.

(full disclosure - they are in minnesota And I like the local business. Plus - even though shipping is no less expensive, I get next day delivery because of locality. :). )

Alpha Knife Supply! I love Trugrit, they are 30 minutes from me and awesome for driving there to get supplies. Alpha is the place to go for steel, they have everything and fastest shipping in west coast and prices are just dirt cheap. I ordered from trugrit and alpha same day, alpha arrived in two days, trugrit week later. Blew my mind, it has something to do where I live, it has to go north and back south according usps, not trugrit issue. I buy all my sandpaper from tru-grit and pick it up, cannot beat their prices.

Horsewright, can I drive up your way and watch your program, I will learn a lot. I sweep your floors, make your coffee and just watch the process, stay out of the way. I will even shovel the stables if need be. lol

You can also throw in New Jersey Steel Baron, Admiral, Jantz, SB Specialty Metals and Niagara Specialty Metals.

If you buy steel within California you'll be paying tax if you live here but shipping should be cheaper and faster. That being said not every place has the steel or size you may be looking for so you may be buying it from out of state.

Thank you for your post.

We try and ship every order in 1 business day.

Shipping prices do vary significantly. We choose to not make a profit on shipping so our shipping prices are low. Most orders within the lower 48 states are delivered in 2-4 business days. The time used to be 2-3 days, but since the pandemic hit the average has gone down.

I get all of my steel from Pops, they are great to deal with, if your order is placed in the morning they ship same day and you’ll have it within 2-3 days. I’ve been using a lot of their 8670 and they have the best price on that type of steel they can also order it in a lot more sizes than I’ve seen other places carry. I also like that they stock the steel in 48” lengths, gives you a lot more freedom in design and less waste versus smaller lengths where you may only be able to get 1 knife with a bunch of waste. Their website calculates the shipping but they refund the difference of what it actually costs, I want to say my last few steels orders were about $40 to ship, one of those orders If I remember correctly was about 60lbs-80lbs of steel

you’ll have it within 2-3 days.

Not always the case currently with the USPS being sabotaged. I sent a package out priority mail and usually only took 2-3 days but this time it took over a week due to sorting machines being removed.

I should have worked it as you will usually get it in 2-3 days, I’ve had packages I’ve sent out to customers take up to 3 weeks to be delivered due to all the issues unfortunately
