Where to by steel...

I bought my first few batches from Admiral. Since it's been brought to light that Admiral is not the best place to go (for reasons already discused) where else?

The reason I don't just do a search is I'd like to get this information all at once rather than trying to assemble it from different posts from different times - since things change over time.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, a name of business, how to contact them and why you think they are good will be helpful.

Thanks...Curt

Hi Curt,

If you look on our website there is a link (Steel for Knifemaking & Damascus) to information for Kelly Cupples.

http://Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com

He carries a nice selection of steels. Also, any of the knife supply houses have selections too.

and why you think they are good will be helpful.

I like Kelly because he's just a plain good guy and, like us, a small business. I like to support small businesses whenever possible.

I like the knife supply houses because I think it important to support those who carry the things that help support our knifemaking passion.

:)

I would second Mr. Ellis' answer for the same reasons. Also - Kelly's a veritable walking encyclopedia of knifemaking and mechanical/technical information.
