Where to find binding posts

I have seen knives that utilize Linen Micarta Handles and it appears that the scales can be removed by unscrewing the allen bolt that goes through the handle. My question is, where can I find these bolts, I think they are called binding posts, but all of the binding posts that I am finding are huge in diameter. These appear to have a 1/4" head.

Can you post a pic?

I know I have seen some makers use a type of bolt for bicycles. On bikes, to hold the main drivetrain chainrings, there are chainring bolts. They are about 1/4", maybe a bit bigger, and have a male and female side, and are used to press a chainring onto a spider, or chainring frame, from both sides. Same idea as you describe.....maybe thats what you mean?

Otherwise, im assuming those makers use fairly thick stock, tap and thread the tang, and just have the bolts screw in from both sides?

I am 99% sure those are just hex allan bolts, but I could be wrong. Id also guess they are threaded into the tang directly, but I may also be wrong. Burch could most likley clarify if these thread in to the same hold from opposite sides, or if the screws are offset from left to right side, and thread fully into the tang. Either way, its a fine, fine idea on a hard use knife like this.

Those appear to be more "Pan Head" shaped hex screws. If so this would give more bearing surface area than hex head cap screws. I too would be interested to know if they are offset left to right.

Those are good ol' 10-32 buttonhead screws. I'm not sure what a binding post is, but these are just screwed into the same tapped hole. I've used 8-32 screws on thinner stock with good results -- plenty of thread to hold 'em on. :)

Michael,

Thanks I think that clears it up. I was trying to get the same result using a chico style screw, or possible a binding post which is like a chicago screw. But finding them with button head and an allen key is almost impossible.
