Where to find ferrocerium rod (aka "metal match", "firesteel")

Hope I got this in the right forum...

I'm in need of some 1/2"dia or so ferrocerium rod for a firestarter product idea I have. I've been searching the web for hours, and while I've found manufacturer's websites in China and Germany, I haven't found the place in the U.S. to buy the stuff.

I know it has to be available, since every gunshow I see has people hawking their own brand of firestarter - unfortunately, none of them will divulge where they get the stuff!

Anyone know of a mailorder/internet place where I can buy plain, unadorned ferrocerium rod at something less than "retail" prices?

Thanks in advance!

Nordic Viking,
We "Americans" love you FireSteels, I have them attached to all my sheaths

Myakka,
Just kidding about "South American" because you wrote "Swiss" instead of "Swedish" FireSteel :D

If have my FS tied to the sheath of a Mora. I haven't had the guts to use the spine of an expensive knife; to create sparks from it.

Nordic,
I corrected the post, sorry about that. As for my expensive knives, they are tools made to be used. I like to use knives :D scratches and marks gives them personality.

My favorite ferrocerium rod is the Swedish Army FireSteel. The FireSteal however comes with a plastic handle. If you looking for a plain, unadorned rod you couls remove the handle. Here is a few links in the USA.

Out comes my CC ... nice find myakaa!

OK since we're showing pics :) Here's my spark based firestarting kit. As you can see, I was a big fan of the Magnesium bar until I learned how to ignite birch bark with the firesteel (see the second attached image for an animated sequence of me testing with birch).

I received the little sparker when I bought some Woodsmaster tapes from Ron Hood in 1999.

Viking, you do know its cheating to use Napalm as a tinder dont you? :)

PythonDR, how big of a Firesteel do you need? I dont know of any sources sorry but the Ultimate Survival Blastmatch ferro rod will just pull out with a bit of effort.

I found a place that manufacturer the raw material. They may be able to put you onto a place that makes it into a finished product. No harm in trying.

The swedish firesteels are available in the states (rebranded by Kershaw), you might check 1SKS.com (the owners of BF :) )

Has Switzerland been moved from Europe to South America?

That was quite a spark you got in that video!

Myakka mistakenly wrote Swiss FireSteel instead of Swedish and I wrote South America in stead of American South (Florida).

I took a screen shot from a video of me making a fire. That frame lasts about 1/27 of a second. It looks much cooler as a still shot than in motion :D
