I'm looking to buy the plastic that is used in making kydex sheaths. I want to construct my own cell phone case cause I keep breaking the plastic window on the outside. Please help!

I think I've asked this question before, and the advice I was given was that the high heat used to make the Kydex floppy would not be a good thing for the phone. I was advised to build a wooden mockup to mould around.

You'll also have to design it to hold the phone without much kydex in contact with the phone, since you want to be able to unsheath it quickly and also to avoid scratches. Forumite cpirtle attached a picture of one he made, and to be frank, it made me think of alternative materials. :)

I guess you could make a loose-fitting Kydex "box" with an open top, and have an attachment mechanism like a button or velcro attached to a flap on the top. That's just a lot of work that could be avoided if you just bought a semi-rigid phone case. I've seen some at outdoor stores, they're like the hard sunglass cases.

You can buy kydex at most knifemaker supply stores like Koval, Texas Knifemaker's Supply, Jantz, etc. You might want to buy thick PVC sheathmaking foam along with the kydex.

I made a snug leather pouch that it fits in, now I want to wrap it in kydex for extra protection.;)

You do mean the phone, right?? ;) :p

No problem at all with the heat...

Hey, pretty cool. Does it hold the phone pretty tight? I'd worry about scratches if it does and the phone falling out if it doesn't.

Did you clamp it with a vise, or did you just hold the kydex in place until it cooled?

It holds the phone very tight...its never fallen out but there are some scratches on the back of the phone[but, like, its a phone...they dont hurt how it works :D ]

I did NOT clamp it....just held it until the concealex cooled.
