Hi Everybody,

My daughter just got accepted to the University of Arizona.:D

I can not be prouder of her, she is the first in my family to do so.

Any ideas of where & what scholarships she can apply for ?

I hear there are thousands of dollars never used because no applies.

She needs all the help she can get so any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated.

She is going for veterinarian sciences, specializing in exotic animals (birds, snakes, spiders & such)

Thank you all

Please feel free to e-mail me.

She loves her Busse's too.

She is also quite an artist.

congrats man, you did good. As to answer your question I am interested in hearing what people have to say regarding this as I am not that far away from joining you  with 2 girls hitting it at the same time...... maybe there is a Busse Scholarship fund :D

I found it was a simple as going to the school she plans to attend and asking the counselors there to search all the scholarships she qualifies for. The high school she graduated from could also have a list. Many times small scholarships go unnoticed as everybody shoots for the big ones. She could even qualify for a number of scholarships and get them all. Good luck, and congrats. Getting a kid to college, alive, is a major accomplishment as a parent.

Everything I got was through the school's financial aid office, both need- and merit- based.

Some of that was federal loans, though, so I've got a pretty substantial pile of debt after a total of ten years of college between undergrad and grad school. If she can find some more private scholarship sources, that will help a LOT.

Just make sure she's prepared to put a lot of time into them, and be likely to get turned down a lot - a lot of them require essays and complicated application packets, and are fairly competitive. It can be demoralizing to apply for a bunch of fellowships and not get any of them - I've watched several friends go through the process and it pretty much made them feel like crap about themselves. Just a friendly warning - let her know up front that it doesn't mean anything bad about her if she doesn't get the stuff she applies for.

Wow, congratulations to you and Becky both! No scholarship info to add, but just wanted to compliment her artwork--very creative imagination and stunning images.

Especially love the "Busse Content"! That would make a very cool poster.

My advice is to become the Guidance/Shcool Counselor's best friend. Check with him or her everyday and apply for everything, and I mean everything that she is eligible for. I did it this way and ended up with a 4 year academic scholarship to a local state school (Appalachian State University). I also received several other local scholarships that helped with books and expenses.

Congrats!

I would spend some time in the local library (or maybe you will have to visit a larger library in your state, sometimes the local library can be pretty small). There were several references available specifically for scholarships back when i looked.

Definitly check with school offices, the college will have a whole office just for scholarships. I am currently a college student and found this to be very helpful. I stayed away from federal loans due to unfavorable rates at the moment. Good luck and congrats on the acceptance. Getting that letter in the mail is definitly a high point in a kids life.

IIRC there is a scam running wherein shady companies ask for money to provide lists of available scholarships. There is no reason to pay for that, any good school guidance counselor should be able to plug you into sources.

Congrats!

Check with any groups you guys are associated with, local civic organizations, hospitals, groups associated with animal care, feed, pet store chains- groups in that career...lots of good advice above...

The art gene runs strong in the family!

Ah college...good times...

Congratulations!

Check the book stores and search the net. There are all kinds of grants, scholarships, you name it floating around out there and any little bit she can qualify for helps. There are annual publications that are pretty general, but look small as well.

Based on her interests, follow the $$$. Donors, trusts, and such surround zoos, museums, heritage groups, etc.
Everything small or large will help, based on her intent.

Check all state, local, regional organizations as well. Anything your family or her are involved or interested in, art, music, shooting, journalism, etc. you will be surprised at what kind of small private trust scholarships and grants you might find.

For example, I landed quite a few regional garden club scholarships that were set up by member donors. I found some local trusts that were set up and provided scholarships to architecture related interests during high school. You might find something in the least likely of places.
Think creatively and you might be surprised.

How about the kydex huffer's guild?

Great to hear she has a plan for her future. I used Pell grants to help me out. You might check out the local fraternal lodges (Moose, Masons, etc). Never know where that next dollar might be waiting.

Take care
