Where to find small bits of leather

I have an eco hawk I want to get a sheath on but I'm not sure where I can get a small piece of leather. All I need is a small piece, maybe 8x8, of veg tanned leather. Any place out there sell in small quantities that's still economical as far as shipping and such. I tried the local tandy store and they don't sell small pieces.

Zack White has veg-tan 3lb. practice packs and you can also buy bellys which are 8-12 sq. ft. veg-tan for a good price. Don't know about shipping (they are right down the road). About all of the internet leather place sell scrap bags. If you can't find some, PM me and I'll send you a piece ......Randy

Hobby Lobby has 8x11 pieces of leather for like $7.99 and they currently have 40% off any one item. It's 3/4 oz but you could double it if need be.

your Tandy should have a bin full of scraps being sold by the pound.
otherwise see if they have a small belly - i recently picked one up for under $20, about 4.5 square feet of 5/6 oz leather.

If there is a saddle shop in your town they will have boxes of scraps they will sell very cheap or give you. I also agree that tandy should have a box of scraps but their leather is not great quality and is over priced.

Although I do trade for leather, MOST of what I use is from flea markets and yard sales. There is a lot of good leather pieces in boots, coats and my favorite leather nail bags. I made 'hawk covers from the soles of 50 cent dress shoes, which by the way is good leather about 14oz..........Randy
