Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find a source for the so called "Military Survival fishing kit".
It seems to be either a small aluminium tin or a plastic one (later version) that contains everything needed. I would like to get one or two for my scout group.
Any info where to get my hands on them is welcome.
Perhaps there even is someone (from the Army) who could send our Scoutinggroup one

As with all Scoutinggroups around the world, we are open to good advice and wide open for gifts

The latest thing they are using is called a SPEEDHOOK. I bought three when they were first introduced through American Survival Guide.

They have two versions: 1) Military, which has EVERYTHING you need. It includes 1 speedhook, 1 hook, 1 line-(I believe it is 20 ft), 1 small ziplock bag with dehydrated scent lure.
2) Regular, which only has the speed hook and pre-attached hook.

The Military comes in a strengthened envelope with instructions. They claim they are useful as a snare for birds and squirrels too! I don't know about catching a bird or squirrel with a fishhook...I would think it would be very inhumane and lead to a loss of you gear with a strong bird or squirrel. I'd rather set a deadfall using the line with the kit for the trigger.

I'll look up the addy and phone # and post it later!

Good luck!

Exploration Products makes fresh water and ocean survival fishing kits as well offering the speed hook (military) that Plainsman described. I got the military fishing kit thru the Navy and have not seen that exact kit anywhere. I haven't compared EP's kits to what I was issued, but it should be close enough. You can try them at www.epcamps.com/gear.html
